If your lips are chapped and wind-bitten, make yourself a cup of tea…then put the tea bag over your lips. Why? Just like the tannins in the tea can immediately hydrate and soothe a sunburn, they’ll do the same for your dry, wind-burned lips. You’ll feel the cooling sensation instantly, we promise.
Who needs to buy a lip scrub when you can DIY your own? Natural skincare line founder Indie Lee says to mix one tablespoon of organic raw cane sugar and one tablespoon of organic honey together, then rub the mixture over your lips gently until all flakes are gone. Tissue off the excess and swipe on your favorite lip balm for pillow-soft lips! Tip: Do this before bed and slather on a heavier balm to soothe your lips overnight.
Just like applying moisturizer to your face in a steamy room will lock in hydration, so will moisturizing your body right after your shower. Towel off in your shower, then slather on the body butter—this will prevent moisture from evaporating and drying out before you can lock it in. You can do this with any lotion, or with one specifically created for this method, like Nivea’s In Shower Body Lotion ($6).
If your strands have been looking particularly brittle and parched, just pour a bit of nutrient-rich vitamin E oil (or pop open a vitamin E capsule) and run it through your hair. Oatmeal baths are gentle enough for babies, so just imagine what they’ll for your irritated or dry skin. Why? Colloidal oatmeal, a natural product made from finely ground oat grains, is full of vitamins, minerals and lipids that all work to hydrate and soothe your skin. If you have eczema or any type of skin irritation, an oatmeal bath will work wonders. Just pour a cup of plain oatmeal into your tub as it fills with warm water, and add a pinch of essential oil (may we suggest lavender?) for a luxurious, at-home spa feel.
Powder highlighters can look cake-y on dry winter skin.
