How to Stay Healthy When Travelling, by Millie Mackintosh

Hi, Byrdie readers! I’ve recently come back from a work trip to Sydney, Australia, and it got me thinking about how easy it can be to derail a healthy lifestyle when travelling or on holiday. Luckily, it’s just as easy to stay on track and still have fun when you’re abroad. You just need to keep in mind some of these tips and tricks.

It all starts on the plane! Set your intention here and now. In-flight meals tend to be high in salt and fat; let the airline know in advance if you have any dietary requirements so you can avoid gluten or dairy, for instance.

On short-haul flights, I take my own food on the plane. Aircraft cabins can be really dehydrating so I’ll always buy a large bottle of water and a big fruit salad in departures and take them on board. Of course, if you’re travelling long-haul you can’t not eat! I take sachets of WelleCo Nourishing Protein (£28) and a shaker with me on the flight, as you can mix it with water, and then I try to choose the healthiest options on the menu.
