Rooney Mara’s braided bun at last night’s BAFTAs 2016 stole the show. We wish our hair looked that good at all the red carpets parties in our diaries. Keep scrolling as Charles Worthington Ambassador Ken O’Rourke, who worked with Rooney on the hairstyle, reveals all.
“The inspiration for the woven, basket effect bun came from a Bottega Veneta bag,” Ken told Byrdie UK. Rooney arrived with her own metallic headband which Ken used to finish off the hairstyle. A calling card of sorts, all the stars he styled for the night wore an accessory or some sort of embellishment in their hair. The updo took 45 minutes to perfect, and we can reveal the step-by-step below.
Step one: Apply Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce BAFTA Edition Express Blow Dry Primer (£7) to wet hair and blow-dry in until smooth.
Step two: Pull hair back into a ponytail at the nape of the neck and secure with a hairband.
Step three: Section the ponytail into 12 equal sections and braid each section and secure at the end.
Step four: Now braid all 12 braids together and take the ends, wrapping it around the ponytail elastic.
Step five: Secure with grips, making sure the chignon looks like the piece of woven leather.
Step six: Place a wide metallic headband like Rooney's and spray with Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Perfect Finish Hairspray (£7) to hide any flyaways.
