Update August 2, 2017: Rihanna's brand Fenty Beauty is dropping globally on September 8 and will be available exclusively at Harvey Nichols in the UK. We can't wait!
Update June 1, 2017: Three months after her PR company made it official, Rihanna herself has made it official-official. The singer took to Instagram yesterday to reveal that not only is Fenty Beauty for sure launching this fall, but you can officially sign up for all updates regarding its availability. Pro tip: Sign up, because lord knows this will be the biggest thing since Kylie Cosmetics. Bigger, even? It’s Rihanna.
Update, February 2017: It’s been nearly 18 months since we first reported that Rihanna’s camp had registered a trademark for Fenty Beauty, and after much buzz and anticipation, it appears that we finally—finally—have a launch date for the singer’s debut cosmetics collection. The PR company handling the label revealed to us this morning that Fenty Beauty is officially slated to arrive sometime this autumn.
We were also informed that Rihanna has partnered with makeup artist James Vincent, who will lead the search to find a global makeup artist to represent the brand. Either way, we can rest assured that the wheels to RiRi’s continued world takeover are definitely in motion.
Original story, September 1, 2015: As if she wasn’t close enough to world domination already, it looks like Rihanna will be tackling the beauty industry in the near future. (You know, because her music, a fragrance, a fancy sock collaboration and perpetually looking fabulous weren’t collectively impressive enough.)
During an interview about her just-launched perfume, RiRi, Refinery29 (geniusly) asked the singer about a trademark request for “Fenty Beauty” that she had filed completely under the radar. The singer was clearly impressed that the site had thought to ask (I mean, so were we).
“Oh wow, that’s crazy, how did you know that?” she asked Refinery29. “That is definitely something I am going to have my hands on and would love to do. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, but I’ve always had so much on my hands. But, this time, I’m going to make sure it happens. I’m going to find some time between albums and fragrance to do that. I promise.”
Her makeup looks are always so on point that we can’t stop daydreaming about what a Rihanna cosmetics line would look like. She’s definitely a busy lady, though (she said it herself!), so we’ll probably have to practice a little patience. Still, consider this glorious rumour confirmed.
And, of course, tide yourself over with her RiRi Eau de Parfum (£23) in the meantime.
