As you get older and start to age, it’s natural to become more self-conscious about your skin. It’s easy to find all the flaws you’re unhappy with rather than focusing on ways to improve your appearance, not to mention your confidence. But before you go to extremes convincing yourself that you need plastic surgery in order to look and feel good, it’s important to evaluate what your strengths and weaknesses are in terms of your skincare routine. “Everyone is guilty of not wearing SPF on a consistent basis, year-round, rain or shine,” explains Dr. Gregory Brown, plastic surgeon and founder of RéVive skincare. “Most people are also guilty of not keeping their skincare routine simple and basic. “Everyone starts aging the day they’re born. Up until your late 20s, your skin is turning over at an optimal rate, but as we age, that rate decreases. So in your late 20s, when things start to slow down, you should focus on anti-aging prevention,” says Dr. Brown.
“Commit to a simple yet personalized regimen. To get good results, you have to do the same thing for a period of time,” explains Dr. Brown. In your 20s and early 30s, the average skin cycle is 30 days, so in order to see results, you have to use RéVive for at least a month.
“You can’t take back what you did in the past, but you can prevent further damage from occurring,” says Dr. Brown. “Being from Kentucky, I think of farmers and how the areas of the body that aren’t protected and exposed to the sun look like leather, whereas the areas that are covered are soft and smooth.”
“A committed and consistent routine is essential to train your skin. But the most obvious and critical steps in a daily skin routine are to cleanse, moisturize, and protect,” says Dr. Brown.
“People want everything possible [in terms of plastic surgery] to address aging. Wrinkles and sagging are a part of the aging process, but the vibrancy and health of the skin are what matters most,” says Dr. Brown. “Skincare can address those where surgery can’t. Being able to achieve a natural, youthful glow is what people want and notice the most.”
