When you think of Olivia Wilde, a few words might come to mind. Beauty might be one, and activist might be another. We’re going to go ahead and add one more word to that list: wise. The new face of Avon’s Today, Tomorrow, Always, Amour ($30) fragrance had plenty of sage beauty advice to offer us when we caught up with her, not least of which included leaving your brows alone (hear, hear!) and the decidedly un-Hollywood mind-set of—gasp—embracing age. From first fragrance loves to workout philosophies, keep scrolling for 10 beauty lessons we learned from Olivia Wilde.

On always finding the story behind a scent:
“I think my favorite part of the Today, Tomorrow, Always, Amour is the story that it represents. It was created to capture the idea of celebrating the love between two people, which is a beautiful thing. The notes within the fragrance are addicting—sandalwood, jasmine, orange—and some of my favorite scents.”
On not over-spritzing:
“The first fragrance I wore was White Musk from The Body Shop. I wore it so consistently that people knew if I had walked through a room before them. Maybe I applied it a bit too liberally!”
On prioritizing your skin:
On aging gracefully:
“I think women should embrace aging! It’s important to take care of ourselves and our bodies. I don’t rely on one single product to help me age gracefully—it comes down to a few essentials, sleep, and plenty of water!”

On learning from mistakes:
“I think the craziest thing I’ve done in the name of beauty would have to be eyebrow-related. I’d shaved them off when I was little, and then once they’d finally grown back, I was constantly over-plucking. Now, I’m also super particular about my eyebrows. I think a good, filled-in brow can really make a look.”
On playing up your assets:
“I like a good eyeliner to play up my eyes—especially a good cat-eye look. During the day, though, I take a more laid-back approach. I’ll do a quick swipe of Revlon mascara.”
On utilizing the unexpected:
“I learned a good trick recently that a toothbrush with hair spray can help tame flyaways!”

On changing your workout mind-set:
“My fitness philosophy is that you should be working out because it feels good, not because you feel like you have to, or because it’s a chore that you have to cross off your list. Once you can get your mind to shift, to realize that exercise is time for you to treat your mind and your body, it totally reframes how you think about it. I like all kinds of workouts—Spin classes, yoga, and Pilates, to name a few.
On making time for yourself:
“I have a lot less time for a beauty routine now that I just want to be playing peekaboo all day! It has definitely shifted my mind-set about fitness. On the one hand, it’s harder to make the time, but it’s also even more important. You need time for yourself as a mom, and I want to be the strongest and healthiest for Otis.”
On switching things up:
“I would totally switch makeup bags with Anjelica Huston! She has such a dramatic, badass, beautiful look.”
