BareMinerals can now officially say of its cult classic original foundation that it's "makeup so pure you can sleep in it." The brand has even gone so far as to trademark that line. To celebrate the fact that we can now all be incredibly lazy and sleep with our makeup on without fear of skin breakouts, BareMinerals enlisted the help of Olivia Culpo to host a sleepover in NYC's Times Square last week (perhaps not the easiest place to get some shut-eye). We were able to put some questions to the model on everything from makeup tricks to her incredible hair texture and how she manages to fall asleep fast.

BYRDIE UK: So it's official: We can now sleep in our makeup guilt-free. Have you ever slept in your makeup before?
OLIVIA CULPO: Yes! I mean, it happens to the best of us.
BYRDIE UK: How do you get ready to sleep?
OC: This might sound really strange, but before I go to sleep, I have to make sure that my space is clean. I love going to bed when my apartment is tidy so I can wake up to a super-clean place. But I do have one trick to fall asleep—[in the evening], I talk to my mom or sisters on the phone, who live across the country. So if [they say] they're going to bed, then I should start thinking about going to bed!
BYRDIE UK: You're heading up this BareMinerals event. What's your first memory of the brand?
OC: My first memory of BareMinerals was in high school. A friend of mine was having a really terrible acne problem, and she needed a recommendation for a foundation that was quick and easy to use, not too much coverage and wouldn't clog her pores. We went everywhere to look. She's my best friend, so I was trying to help her figure out what the answer was. We went to the mall, found BareMinerals, did the whole "swirl, tap, buff," and she still wears it every single day. It's her go-to foundation. It's everything she's ever needed, and it completely helped clear up her skin!
BYRDIE UK: We've seen that you're great at applying your own (and other people's) makeup. Any tips you can share?
OC: The most important trick when doing makeup is to always blend! Whether you use a Beautyblender or even just your fingers, you should always blend to make sure everything is seamless.
BYRDIE UK: Your hair is incredible. How do you get that great lived-in texture?
OC: Thank you! I feel what really works for me is keeping my hair a little bit dirty. I don't wash it every day; I wash every other day or every other other day! And I love to use a texturing spray, dry shampoo or thickening spray.
[Ed. note: Culpo told Byrdie that she loves Oribe shampoo, conditioner and Dry Texturizing Spray (£41). She also likes Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray (£10), shampoo and conditioner, and Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream (£24).]
BYRDIE UK: Since this foundation is essentially good for your skin, how else do you stay healthy?
OC: I think that for beauty, a lot has to do with what you put on it but also what you put inside your body. So for me, staying hydrated and not drinking a lot of caffeine are things that I swear by.
BYRDIE UK: What does a typical workout week look like for you?
OC: It depends; when I'm not travelling, I try to work out three to four times a week. I love to hike and go to Spin, barre, Pilates and yoga classes. When I have the time, I love to work out. I'm loving the FlyBarre classes, which is part of FlyWheel. Another thing I've tried recently that isn't a workout but is very cool is cryotherapy. [Ed. note: Read our review of cryotherapy here.]
BYRDIE UK: How do you keep fit when travelling?
OC: Jump rope! When I'm travelling, it's an easy thing to bring with me. It's a simple and quick cardio workout wherever you go!
