In the Detail: A Lesson in Party Makeup by the Affordable New Brand on the Block

Welcome to our series In the Detailwhere we take a magnifying glass to the hottest new beauty trends and zero in on what makes them great. This is the ultimate guide to zeitgeist beauty and how to wear it your way.

Christmas party season is hurtling towards us, and by now, it's likely you'll have multiple dates circled in your diary. Not only are all these celebrations cause for a new outfit or two (our friends over at Who What Wear UK have you covered on that front), but they're also the perfect opportunity to get a little more experimental with your makeup.

What you need now is some inspiration, so we turned to makeup artist Lottie Tomlinson to talk us through 2017's most modern incarnations of party makeup trends. Her weapons of choice? mark. makeup, the new brainchild brand of beauty heavyweight Avon, which has recently signed Tomlinson as its UK ambassador. It may be pretty under the radar, but having swatched every single product up and down our arms backstage on the shoot and seeing the downright dreamy looks Tomlinson managed to whizz together, we can confidently say it's about to become big beauty news. We're more than impressed at the super-high-pigment shades and smoother-than-silk finishes. Oh, and we should probably mention that the products are crazy affordable, too.

So keep scrolling to discover three modern party makeup looks and our quick and easy guide to re-creating them.

Up next, we asked ASOS Lesley to put ASOS makeup to the test, and we've got to say we're pretty impressed.
