Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee works with some of the most beautiful faces in the business, and somehow manages to make them even more beautiful. Keira Knightley’s go-to makeup artist, Lee is also behind some of the most memorable red carpet beauty moments of the last few years, from Emma Watson's stunning look at the 2014 Golden Globes, to many a smoldering smoky eye for Nicola Peltz, Rose Byrne, and Rosie Huntington Whiteley. As a wonderful person on top of her talent (we got to know Lee closely on a press trip), she becomes personal friends with most of her clients, so her feed not only shows off their gorgeous makeup looks, but also scenes from birthday parties for celeb pals, private events, and editorial work.
Dubroff is an incredibly well-respected industry vet with decades of experience. She regularly works with Naomi Watts, Dakota Johnson, Allison Williams, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and does extensive editorial makeup for celebrity beauty spreads in magazines like Glamour, Marie Claire, and Esquire. Seeing behind-the-scenes snaps of her many editorials, covers, and event makeup is always a treat in our Instagram feed.
Clicking on Patrick Ta's Instagram handle should come with a warning that you are now entering babe town. The master makeup artists knows a thing or two about creating a killer "bombshell" look, and his Instagram page is a veritable mecca of sexy, smoldering makeup. He works with everyone from Shay Mitchell to Gigi Hadid and Joan Smalls, and the images he posts are lush and high quality—we guarantee you will not be able to stop scrolling. One more reason to love Ta? He's the man behind many of Joan Smalls' best looks ever, including her insanely cool burgundy lip, which we wrote about here.
No list of makeup artists to follow on Instagram would be complete without the inclusion of the magnificent Charlotte Tilburry, one of the industry’s most accomplished artists to date. The British pro has worked with Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, and was the sole artist for Amal Clooney’s entire wedding weekend. She posts unpretentious photos with clients, along with info on her various editorial covers, and beauty inspiration (i.e. old photos of Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, and more).
How does J.Lo look so insanely good on every red carpet, and at every event? Genetics aside, the answer lies with Mary Phillips, Lopez’s longtime makeup artist. Her Instagram showcases her enviable work and spoiler alert: Following Phillips will make you really wish she was at your service as a beauty fairy godmother.
Nick Barose is best known as the go-to guy for Lupita N’yongo. His Instagram showcases his award-worthy work, along with beauty tips and product spotlights. But it’s also a plain-old trip—the amateur comedian doesn’t hold back from criticizing certain social media trends and makeup disasters. You’ll get pro-advice and “real talk” when it comes to the beauty industry.
We’re pretty much obsessed with every look Hung Vanngo creates, from a punchy orange lip on Rose Byrne to bombshell glamour on January Jones—and literally all of his work for regular client Kate Bosworth. His Instagram is a stunning homage to the artistry of makeup and our Insta-addiction wouldn’t be the same without his makeup skills making our feed prettier.
It’s hard to look away from the way in which makeup artist Spencer Barnes transforms client Julianne Hough into a chameleon-like array of looks (vampy vixen, wet-haired beach babe, and more). We’re also partial to his awesome throwback Thursday posts that feature memorable beauty moments of years past.
"Sir John" Barnett is the elusive makeup artist responsible for pretty much any time you've seen Beyonce looking #flawless—which is to say: every time you've ever seen Beyonce. He created all of her looks for her visual album and On the Run Tour, and also was the creative genius behind Joan Smalls' epic purple lip at last year's Met Ball. The only real window you'll get into his jet-setting glamorous life is following his Instagram, which boasts an occasional snap of Queen Bey, along with the other stunning clients, including Smalls, Chrissy Teigen, Kelly Roland, and Liya Kebede. He was recently named the ambassador for L'Oréal Paris, so expect to see some awesome campaign, commercial, and editorial photos coming your way.
