I’m going to put it out there—I’m in love with the L’Occitane Overnight Reset Serum. Day-to-day, my skin usually behaves itself pretty well, but when it comes to going on holiday, all hell breaks loose.
No matter what suncream I use, the combination of heavy SPF and (let’s face it) sweat means I get stubborn under-the-skin spots from all the clogged up grime. And once I’m home, my skin cries out for moisture, turning dry and flaky within moments from stepping off the plane. Plus, no matter how much sun protection I wear, I’m left with dehydration-induced wrinkles I never had before. Seriously, summer + my skin = not a good combination.
But this year it’s been different. I’ve been trying out the brand-new L’Occitane Overnight Reset Serum (£49), and I’m pleased to say everything has changed. The super-lightweight water-gel is seriously hydrating and packed with antioxidants: It contains tiny golden bubbles filled with L’Occitane’s Immortelle Oil Extract, which contains two times the antioxidant that's in vitamin E. It also boasts marjoram extract to kick-start your skin's natural function so it can protect itself against UV damage, pollution and stress.
And then there's the powerful acmella oleacera extract, a natural alternative to Botox: It helps relax muscle tension (goodbye, sun-induced squinty frown lines) and smooth out the appearance of dehydration lines. It's like a good night's sleep in a bottle—your skin is left glowing and well-rested—as it should be after a week away.
Unlike other hydrating serums I've tried, this one has a satin-like finish that leaves your skin smooth—not sticky. I started using it a week before my holiday, and I used it religiously every night throughout my trip. Not once did my skin feel dry and tight (even after flying, which is a first), and it’s continued to behave itself now that I'm home.
Overnight Reset Serum is also designed to be used with any of L'Occitane's moisturisers, meaning you can mix and match to your heart's content. I'm pretty loyal to the Immortelle Precious Light Cream (£52) in summer, as it's rich enough to keep my skin feeling plump and hydrated without being greasy. My skin's silky and soft, plus those wrinkles that always seem to appear in the sun somehow managed to stay hidden away this year.
Sure, I still got the odd blemish while I was away, but you can't have it all. Plus, I found that because my skin was so happy and supple underneath, the blemishes never really progressed into full-on angry zits. There was just a small blocked pore one day, and it was gone the next. I can deal with that.
