Confession time: I HATE washing my hair. So much so that I once went two years without shampoo or conditioner. (Before you think I'm totally gross, you should know that the no-poo method saved my strands.) But while I've since incorporated cleansing cream and some natural products into my routine, I'll still take any excuse to skip some extra shower time—which is why the hunt for the perfect dry shampoo has been both fervent and slightly disappointing. Don't get me wrong, there are some great products out there. But until a couple of weeks ago, I wasn't sure if the holy grail dry shampoo—one that really cleans your hair without leaving behind powdery residue—really existed.
But it turns out I just had to practice some patience, because the hair geniuses at Living Proof were already busy cooking up the product of my dreams—for seven years in fact, since they were that determined to create a dry shampoo that could rival an actual shower. And earlier this month, I was invited to put the final product, Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo ($22)... after sweating it out in a SoulCycle class. The gauntlet had officially been thrown.
But sure enough, this stuff really, really delivers. After 45 minutes of tap-backs and getting my groove on, I was given the lowdown on how the product works, just in time to save my sweaty strands. The magic is in the spray-on powder: After applying it liberally all over your roots, you let it sit for 30 seconds, while the powder absorbs any excess dirt and oil. Then, you either shake out the powder or give yourself a quick blast with a hairdryer—and the it disappears, taking all that gunk with it. From my fresh-looking locks, you'd never know I had just worked out. And since SoulCycle is typically where I reach my peak perspiration levels, I'd call it a runaway success.
And did I mention that it smells amazing?
