Dermatologists are attributing tech neck to the constant downward gaze that comes with smartphones and tablets. Basically, every time you bend your neck to look down at your phone, you’re accelerating the impact of gravity on your lower face, throat, and upper chest. And we’re guessing the number of times you glance at your phone throughout the day is pretty high, no?
What sets tech neck apart from your typical effects of aging (aside from the distinct neck crease) is that it’s primarily affecting young people. That’s right, wrinkles and sagging jowls are now the concern of 18- to 39-year-olds. If you glance down at your screen about 150 times a day, you should probably start taking extra steps to protect yourself from tech neck. Treat your neck and upper chest to the same skincare products you use on your face and bump up the SPF. The skin on your neck is very thin, so even if you think your smartphone usage falls far away from the 150 times mark, it’s important to protect your neck.
