When it comes to ageing, it’s our natural tendency to obsess over the (mildly disconcerting) changes that we begin to notice on the places we look at the most (i.e., our face, neck, and décolletage). All of a sudden, mid–pore or mustache inspection, we discover an under-eye wrinkle that we swear wasn’t there two days ago, or an age spot that seems to have magically appeared overnight.

And considering all of the amazing things they do for us (like preparing an amazing meal, holding the hand of a loved one, and driving us around, to name just a few), it’s only to be expected that over time they begin to show some premature wear and tear. Take a minute (and maybe a deep breath) to think about how many times in a day your hands are washed, exposed to icky germs, and bared to the harsh elements of Mother Nature. Our point? An at-home scrub that exfoliates the skin—nixing dead cells, softening calluses, and restoring brightness and tone—is essential for reversing the daily drama and keeping hands feeling supple and youthful. We like this DIY cinnamon-based recipe that works miracles on even the toughest of cases. Easy, natural, and foodie inspired (it smells intoxicating in the best way possible), this mixture is fast to whip up and virtually free. Simply mix two tablespoons of brown sugar (bonus points if it’s organic) with one tablespoon of extra-virgin olive or coconut oil and one teaspoon of cinnamon. Work the mixture into skin with small, circular motions, and then rinse. For an added dose of moisture (though the oil itself is incredibly moisturizing), follow with a rich hand cream.
