As much as we all wish we had the time to pamper our skin with a daily six-step routine, the reality is that caring for our complexions usually takes a backseat when it comes to life’s more pressing issues (like happy hour cocktails, or our Netflix queue). We spoke with Dr. Joshua Zeichner, Director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC, and asked him to indulge our inner lazy girl with his best low-effort tips for every skin woe.

The Lazy Girl Solution: Instead of spending precious time and energy piling on the products, indulge your lazy side and condense your skin routine. “Choose two products only—one with antioxidants and one with retinol,” Zeichner says. Both of these ingredients have been proven to help brighten, plump, and regenerate skin cells. Zeichner recommends using a product containing vitamin C, like Vichy’s Reti-C Intensive Corrective Care SPF 15 ($43), in the morning and a product with retinol, Roc’s Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream ($22), at night. “Remember, more products are not necessarily better!”
The Lazy Girl Solution: This one is simple: “Watch your diet!” Zeichner says. “Often times, spicy foods, hot beverages, and red wine make redness and flushing worse.” Product-wise, use something with redness-reducing botanicals—he recommends Skinceuticals’ Redness Neutralizer ($66).
The ultimate lazy girl weapon to fight redness? Anything green. “A green-tinted makeup base or concealer will help neutralize redness—then, just apply your foundation as your normally would.”
The Lazy Girl Solution: This solution is so easy, you can do it in your sleep—literally. “Sleep on your back with two pillows,” Zeichner says. “This will help fluids drain and prevent your eyes from getting puffy.”
Problem: Dark Circles
The Lazy Girl Solution: “Unfortunately, there’s no lazy way to get rid of these!” Zeichner says. Make sure to use a sunscreen, like Coola’s Mineral Matte Finish Sunscreen ($36), every day to prevent them. “Otherwise, hide them quickly with a CC cream with brightening ingredients,” he suggests. Try Peter Thomas Roth’s CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Complexion Corrector ($48).
The Lazy Girl Solution: Surprise pimple? There’s a lazy girl fix for that. Zeichner says to use a product with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream on the spot—it will immediately kill the acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation. He recommends combining Neutrogena’s On The Spot Acne Treatment ($8) with Cortaid ($6).
The Lazy Girl Solution: Another solution you can do in your sleep—Zeichner recommends an overnight mask like Dr. Jart +’s Water Fuse Water-Max Sleeping Mask ($38). Its gel formula delivers a big dose of moisture and nutrients while you snooze.
The Lazy Girl Solution: “Primers are your best friend,” Zeichner says. They not only absorb oil and make you look less shiny, but they help your makeup go on more smoothly. Instead of blotting throughout the day, keep your complexion shine-free by using a primer like Korres’ Pomegranate Mattifying Primer ($33) after your favorite moisturizer.
