When a new Netflix series drops, there's always that moment of shame when you realise you've spent a whole weekend binging on popcorn and TV. But when we got Stranger Things, we thought we'd been given our quota of incredible Netflix series of the year. Then along came Baz Luhrmann's The Get Down.
Set in the 1970s in the Bronx, this is all about a coming-of-age story as well as the birth of hip-hop. But as it's the '70s, there's also a load of disco thrown in for good measure. Which leads us nicely on to talking about the main girl, Mylene Cruz, played by the brilliant Herizen Guardiola. Mylene, whose icon is Donna Summer, wants to be a disco singer but her father is against the idea. Spoiler alert: She does it anyway. We won't reveal any more of the plot but let's just say, ever since we saw Guardiola playing the role, we're obsessed.
In an interview with Vogue, the star revealed how much she loves her "crazy, curly hair" (#hairgoals) in her life off screen. But Guardiola also talked about her character's beauty transformation over the course of the show:
"Mylene is pretty clean-faced—that’s just who she is. And once she goes disco, there’s a lot of really fun, beautiful makeup that I get to wear, like glamorous lashes. You have to watch to see exactly what it is—I don’t want to ruin anything!"
So from cool, nostalgic looks in The Get Down to her own personal style on her Insta feed, she's officially our new beauty crush. We reckon you'll be seeing much more of her in the future.

A middle parting always looks so cool. Bonus points for such an ace T-shirt too.
This long half-up, half-down style is giving us some nostalgic hairspiration.
We've never wanted to go without makeup more.
A simple low braid is another look we'll be rocking this week.
That hair is everything.
We wish our bedhead looked like this. She's also got some serious eyebrow game going on.
