She’s a global DJ sensation who spends just as much time in front of the camera, getting her style snapped, as she does behind the turntables. That’s why when we heard that she was working with a beauty brand, Urban Beauty United, on an inspiring new campaign designed to empower women, we jumped at the chance to chat all-things beauty with her.

As a woman who’s constantly on the go, what beauty products always make it into your luggage?
Viera-Newton: I like to keep it minimal—eye cream, moisturizer, Lasharazzi eyelash curler ($8), my lipstick, Minnie Me’s mini tweezers ($10), a sheer foundation like Giorgio Armani’s Maestro Fusion Foundation ($64), and Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream ($21).
What are your makeup essentials?
Viera-Newton: I usually don’t wear a lot of makeup, but I do love beauty tools that make life easier—a good sponge for blending foundation, like the Blender Baby ($8) from Urban Beauty United, and a big, soft brush for powder when I’m feeling shiny. I use the Super Softy ($10) from Urban Beauty United—it feels really nice on the skin.
What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever gotten from your mother?
Viera-Newton: My mother’s signature look is her green eyeliner. She always said to play with makeup, and once you find what feels right, stick with it. That way, no matter where you are or what you’re doing, you’ll always feel like yourself. And that’s what I’ve done with my makeup.
So what is your signature beauty look?
Viera-Newton: I have the same beauty uniform for work and play. I do a bright red lip and a black, Bardot cat eye. It’s classic, clean, never looks heavy, and it’s light and easy enough to wear when I’m working. A couple of layers of MAC’s Ruby Woo Lipstick ($16) stays on for long nights.
What got you excited about Urban Beauty United and the All Girls on Deck Campaign to find the next leading female DJ?
Viera-Newton: I loved the products. They’re playful, fun, and girly. I like that they’re fashion-forward, but not taking beauty too seriously. As far as the All Girls on Deck DJ Campaign, I always love a girl power moment and inspiring women to follow their dreams. I’m just looking forward to hearing all of the entries. For me, it’s all about creativity. With music, when you hear it, you just know.
