When it comes to yoga, finding the right hairstyle can be tricky. You will bend into all manner of poses in a class—you'll be on the mat and off the mat, you'll potentially end up in some kind of inversion if you're pretty advanced—so you need to choose an updo that is going to suit your style of yoga practice.
We called on yoga teacher and founder of Fat Buddha Yoga Jessica Skye to reveal the best hairstyles for yoga class, whether you choose a hot and sweaty 90 minutes of Bikram or an energetic Ashtanga session. Keep scrolling for the hairstyles you need in your repertoire.
No muss, no fuss! For a power yoga session, pull your hair off your face, twist it and pop it in a bun on the back of your head, that way it won't get in the way when you attempt those headstands.
For more chilled classes, a French plait is perfect. It keeps hair off your face and doesn't get in the way when you lay down.
If your French braid skills aren't up to scratch, no worries! Try a simple braided ponytail, again it will keep hair out of your face, and the plait itself won't get in your way.
First off, this hairstyle looks super cute, but it's also perfect for any type of yoga session as it keeps hair out of your face—it won't get in the way of headstands or when it comes to lying back for savasana.
For a more intense style of yoga try a high bun. Super slick and pulled back tight, you want to channel ballerina chic here!
A thick headband will double as a sweatband and keep everything in check without the need for hair grips, which can dig into your head when you're lying down.
Get the look with a Fabletics The Palmer Headband (£7).
Again if you're nifty with braiding, then try boxer braids (a double French or Dutch braid) or simply part your hair and pull into plaited pigtails. This hairstyle is ideal as no hair will get loose and the plaits won't get in your way.
After your session fill your bath with Mio Liquid Yoga Restorative Bath Soak (£26)
