If you spend any time at the hair salon, it’s probably a good idea to verse yourself in proper etiquette: Don’t keep your face buried in your phone, try to sit still, brush your teeth (← big one), and so forth. But here’s a pointer that took even us by surprise: Apparently crossing your legs in the salon chair is just not a good idea, for your own sake.
According to hairstylist Lacy Redway, who works with celebs like Olivia Palermo and Lupita Nyong’o, this practically unconscious action is sabotaging your trim. “Doing this will make your haircut unbalanced and uneven,” she tells Allure. Other things that can throw your cut off balance? Turning your head while you flip through your magazine, talking emphatically (i.e., with your hands), and running your fingers through your hair, which, frankly, is pretty obvious.
So relax and chat away, but also be conscious of yourself and your surroundings. It not only make things easier for your stylist but also ensures a killer ’do for you.
