As the weather cools down, the layers pile on; cosy knits become closet staples, sandals are traded for boots, and scarves appear in our outfit rotation. When it comes to our bodies, keeping warm is simple. Our skin, on the other hand, is a different story. Piling on heavy moisturizers with abandon might be tempting, but anyone who’s tried this can attest that this usually means one thing: breakout city. Luckily, we got Joanna Vargas, celebrity esthetician and founder of her eponymous skincare line, to share a few simple solutions to keep your skin extra-glowy through fall. Take a (Chamomile) Bath
If the skin on your body has been looking as dry as the Sahara lately, Vargas suggests drawing a chamomile and rosemary bath. “The best skincare tip I can recommend is something I learned when my son had eczema as a baby,” she says. “To this day, it’s my family secret for healing dry, sensitive skin.”
Here’s how to start: First, boil a large pot of water with one cup of chamomile tea leaves and one cup of rosemary. Allow them to cook for about 15 minutes, then strain and add this tea water to your bath. “Not only will you feel relaxed, but this potion will soothe your skin like nothing else,” Vargas says. “Dry patches and redness will disappear overnight!” Looks like those skirts you packed away might be making an appearance, after all?
DIY a 3-Ingredient Moisture Mask
When your face is feeling especially tight (and not in a good way), Vargas suggests turning to your kitchen and whipping up a DIY moisture mask. Take 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt, 1/2 avocado, and 1/4 tablespoon honey, then mix them together in a small bowl. Apply it to your face with your fingers, wait 20 minutes, then rinse off for pillow-soft skin.
“The yogurt in this mask is an anti-inflammatory with a lactic acid component,” Vargas says. “Avocado is something I recommend for any skin type. It has a lot of B vitamins and fatty acids, so it’s essential to keep skin hydrated. The honey also hydrates, and will transform your skin!”

Hydrate While You Sleep
The easiest way to make sure your skin is hydrated this fall? Get a humidifier for your bedroom, stat. “It will add just enough moisture to the environment to give your skin the chance to do some real healing [while you sleep],” Vargas says.
