What year is it? 2016? We could’ve sworn it was something else… Oh, that's right: It’s the Year of Gigi. Since January, the flaxen-haired model’s presence and influence seem to have increased tenfold. Vogue spread with boyfriend in tow? Check. Baby’s first (très chic) nude magazine cover? Check. Brand campaigns? You’re looking at Maybelline New York’s brand ambassador, as well as the face of Versace’s F/W 16 campaign. Plus, there are all those rumours—you know, the ones about her supposed split from former One Direction member Zayn Malik. (Because you’ve never really made it until you’re part of the rumour mill, and Hadid has clearly been inducted into the club.)
We caught up with Hadid at Maybelline New York’s Beauty Bash and asked her a few of our most pressing beauty questions (one from a Byrdie reader!). Then we sped things up with a rapid-fire round of Would You Rather. The model, lithe and towering above us in a navy spaghetti-strap dress, was all smiles and more than happy to oblige—oh, and she managed to clear up those breakup rumours in a very casual yet pointed way. Note to fans: Her relationship status appears to be very much "in one."

BYRDIE: First things first: What is that amazing plum lipstick you're wearing?
GIGI HADID: I'm wearing [Maybelline's Color Sensational The Loaded Bold] in Raisin, and then we also did the new white shade in the middle and black on the corners. It just gives so much depth to the lip. There so many amazing, exciting, unique, and unexpected colors in the new Bold Collection, so I think that having the black and white [shades] gives so much more opportunity to play around with those colors. That little beauty hack they taught me today was really cool.
BYRDIE: Your sister Bella was just brought on as Dior Beauty's brand ambassador. What's the best beauty tip you've swapped with her?
GH: In high school, I always did Bella's makeup because I always loved it and I've always been an artist. I love painting and using colors, so that's what was fun for me about makeup.
BYRDIE: And she would let you?
GH: Yeah, yeah! So when she signed to Dior—well, I'm obviously so proud of her. I told her that my favourite thing about signing to a makeup brand is just being able to be adventurous with it and have fun and try and be the best spokesperson you can be, which is by showing people all the different and fun ways you can use makeup. I told her to have fun with it.
BYRDIE: We polled our readers for questions, and @JennMooreX wants to know: What is the first thing you do when you get a breakout?
GH: My mom always put toothpaste on her pimples before she went to sleep, so I grew up doing that. That's what I do!
BYRDIE: And you swear it works?!
GH: Yeah! It dries it out well.
BYRDIE: And now, we thought we'd play a lightning round of Would You Rather.
BYRDIE: Would you rather give up cheeseburgers or chocolate?
BYRDIE: Would you rather cook or be cooked for?
GH: You know, I love cooking for people, and I love entertaining in that way, but I never had a boyfriend who could cook for me until now, and I'm really loving it! I'm not taking it for granted.
BYRDIE: What's your signature dish? Or do you have something that you cook for your friends?
GH: I change it up. I really like doing new things, so I always ask my friends to just pick something random, even if they don't know if I know how to make it. Just whatever they're feeling like, and then I just learn that night. I'm pretty good at pulling things off on my first try.
BYRDIE: Would you rather listen to Justin Bieber or Kanye when working out?
GH: When working out, probably Kanye. It's more upbeat and it gets you going.
BYRDIE: Would you rather cut your hair into a pixie or dye it black?
GH: Pixie—I think.
BYRDIE: Would you rather give up bronzer or mascara?
BYRDIE: Would you rather get a facial or a massage?
GH: Massage! Facials freak me out.
BYRDIE: Okay, last one. Would you rather do your own hair or your own makeup for an event?
GH: My own hair. My friends are the best makeup artists in the world!
