Women with small eyes have to do things a little differently. Eyeliner and mascara require their own bag of tricks just to yield the results that doe-eyed beauties take for granted. But the real ticket to enhancing small eyes lies with eye shadow. Even if you can’t remember the last time you touched an eye shadow brush, you’re going to want to try this tip.
Eyelid Contouring: The Technique
Contouring doesn’t end with sculpted cheekbones and a slimmer nose. If you have small eyes or hooded lids, they deserve a little contour too. To create the illusion of more of a crease, and therefore bigger, shapelier eyes, you want to shade the area ever so slightly above your natural crease. As you probably know all too well, when you don’t have a lot of lid to work with, any color applied directly into the socket is going to disappear the moment you open your eyes. You have to overshoot it a bit in order to get definition and make your crease visible. Just don’t contour your entire crease all the way into the inner corner—stop about mid-pupil to avoid closing off your eyes.
