We’ll never forget the first time we realised Emilia Clarke, who plays the platinum blond Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, was not, in fact, platinum blond. Our world shook just a little, but we soon got accustomed to seeing the actress in her naturally brunette state (which she will maintain for this month’s summer blockbuster Terminator Genisys). On Sunday, however, Daenerys—we mean, Clarke—threw us for another loop when she debuted a chic, shoulder-skimming lob at the film’s Berlin premiere. The cut, which is the handiwork of hairstylist Alex Polillo, was styled into soft, face-framing curls and a deep side part—aka very chic and very French. “We wanted to show off Emilia’s new haircut with a chic, soft, and full style,” Polio says. “The look was inspired by the Dior girl—very French, very pretty, but with an ease.”
Polillo worked with Redken 5th Avenue and prepped Clarke’s damp strands with the brand’s Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer ($22), then added a small amount of volumizing mousse at the crown before blow-drying with a round brush. Then, he created one “brushed-out wave” at the front to complement the shape of her face, finishing with a spritz of Redken’s Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist ($22) to add extra shine. Elegant and chic—a regal style worthy of the Mother of Dragons.
