Drunk Elephant is one of those brands that ticks a lot of boxes: fun Instagrammable packaging, check; efficacious formulas, check; free from essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical screens, fragrance/dyes and SLS, check! Founder Tiffany Masterson calls these ingredients the suspicious six. She launched the brand because she was suffering with lots of different skin issues: combination, oily-in-the-T-zone, occasionally breakout-prone, out-of-balance with mild rosacea and visible pores and she was frustrated.
Luckily for us, she ploughed her frustrations into launching a bar cleanser and taught herself about skincare ingredients in her spare time. Today, Drunk Elephant is a pioneer in "clean clinical" skincare; Masterson includes both natural and synthetic ingredients in her products but only if they "directly benefit the health of the skin." Needless to say, for years now, British beauty editors and skincare obsessives have been stockpiling the products, bringing them back from Sephora in the U.S., but today it launches in Space NK.
You may be wondering why it's called Drunk Elephant, and well, it's all thanks to the marula oil, the star of the brand's facial oil and in many of the other products too. Apparently, when elephants eat the fruit from the marula tree, they appear to get drunk. Today, 13 Drunk Elephant products launch, and we're going to take you through each one. With so many products, it's tricky to know where to start, so I've asked a lot of beauty editors, and everyone raves about the C-Firma Day Serum (£80).
As for application, Masterson told me she thinks of it like making a meal. She pumps a little Protini in the morning or La La in the night, and uses the lid of the pots as her "mixing bowl"; she then adds a pump of different serums depending on what she wants: "I always add a pump of B-Hydra day and night; you wouldn't have a meal without a glass of water would you?" She mixes it all together and massages it in. No need to layer and wait—just mix, massage and go. Keep scrolling to see and shop the Drunk Elephant range.
Not sure where to start? The Littles is a great intro to the brand including the Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser, Lala Retro Whipped Cream, B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum, T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, C-Firma Day Serum, Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil and Shaba Complex Eye Serum. It makes a great travel companion too.
This does-it-all bar cleanses, tones and moisturises the skin in one go. Ideal for combination skin types, it unclogs pores and washes away excess oil without stripping the skin.
Another editor favourite, this jelly cleanser is packed with glycerin to ensure skin stays hydrated as it cleanses. Omegas 3 and 9 (as well as the marula oil) gently but effectively lift away dirt, grime and makeup without affecting the skin's delicate pH balance.
With bamboo powder and thermal mud, this bar lathers on the skin cleansing, exfoliating and detoxifying.
Marula oil is naturally packed with antioxidants, vitamin E, and omegas 6 and 9, which both hydrate and firm the skin. The lovely beauty influencer Kaushal told me she adds a couple of drops of this oil to her favourite foundation for added skin glow.
With potent L-ascorbic acid this lightweight vitamin C serum brightens and improves skin texture. Fruit enzymes clear away dead skin cells, while the virgin marula oil provides antioxidant protection. This is a beauty editor favourite.
A great all-rounder this eye cream tackles discolouration thanks to niacinamide, whilst refreshing and soothing the delicate eye are. Citrus plant bio-flavanoids, known for their anti-inflammatory properties, take down puffiness too.
Like a tall glass of water for your skin, this complexion drenching serum contains Vitamin B5, which is known to moisturiser and soothe the skin. Pineapple ceramide supports the skin in retaining moisture too.
With 12% AHA and BHA this night serum gets to work on both the upper layers and deeper down into the pores to refine the texture and boost skin glow. With dead skin sloughed away, your skin is primed for your morning skincare to work more effectively.
A seriously good hydrating cream, this contains nine peptides that signal to the skin to produce more collagen for a plumper, younger-looking complexion. Make like Masterson and use the lid as a mixing dish and add your favourite serums before applying.
For dry, dehydrated or lacklustre skin, this cream should be your go-to. It contains six African oils to nourish the skin and soften the appearance of fine lines. Passion fruit makes light work of brightening the complexion, so you can wave goodbye to any unwanted dullness.
This powerhouse eye cream contains five different types of vitamin C to brighten and protect the eye area. Peptides, ceramides and cucumber extract soothe and support the skin so the skin looks firmer and plumper.
This oversize buttery lip balm contains a ton of nourishing oils including avocado and marula. Antioxidant-rich green tea leaf and vitamin C ensure lips are well protected. Snap one up for the colder winter months.
We have it on good authority that more Drunk Elephant products will be making their way to the UK soon.
