Chloë Grace Moretz’s beauty style is beyond her years. Sure, she’s just 20, but she is self-assured enough to break away from the beauty code of contouring and matte lips that many of her contemporaries stand by. Instead Moretz does her own thing, be it a wet-look messy topknot or a bold teal eye. When it comes to beauty, she’s not afraid to take risks, which are well-thought-out enough that they always pay off. Her beauty look is a little edgy and tomboyish, but it’s mixed with an eclectic glam.
All things considered, it’s no surprise that Coach's creative director, Stuart Vevers, tapped the young actress as the face of the brand back in 2016. Of Moretz, Vevers told Vogue.com, “The work I’ve done at Coach, it’s not about being weighted down by old codes of luxury; it’s about looking at what the next generation cares about. … I think Chloë represents that in many ways—this idea of freedom and ease.” When we were recently offered the chance to drop Moretz a line via email to find out about her love of the Coach fragrance, the inner workings of her beauty routine, and how she stays fit we jumped at the chance.

BYRDIE UK: What does your beauty routine entail?
Chloë Grace Moretz: My beauty routine is pretty simple. I am not a big fan of makeup. I believe in a clean, fresh look. I routinely go for facials at my dermatologist’s office, Dr. Lancer, and they have transformed my skin. I wash my face, apply moisturiser, put on some mascara and lip balm and pretty much go about my day. As for hair, anything by Kevin Murphy—maybe Killer Curls, depending on the look.
BYRDIE UK: Do you have any favourite drugstore beauty products?
CGM: The beauty product I use the most is a balm called Dr. Paw Paw. It is an Australian product, and it is the most healing substance in the world for me. I also love CeraVe moisturiser and cannot live without it.
BYRDIE UK: What do you love about the Coach fragrance?
CGM: I love it! It’s feminine but still unexpected. The floral notes are not overpowering or stuffy, and it feels sophisticated in a cool way. I’ve been wearing it every day. It just gets more interesting. You can wear it at night with a sexy outfit and also in the day. It had to be flirty and fun, and it really feels like spring. It feels fresh; it feels new; it feels progressive.
BYRDIE UK: They say scent is closely linked to memories in our brain. Do you have any special fragrance memories from your childhood?
CGM: For me, scent is a really big deal in my life. My mom had several phases of perfumes in her life, and each one has a different point in my childhood in a funny way, so scent is probably my favourite thing; it’s my favourite sense.
[Ed. note: You can also buy Coach The Fragrance in a 100ml bottle for £69.]
BYRDIE UK: What fitness classes or instructors do you love, and why?
CM: I do many things to stay fit. My number one is Pilates. For cardio, I do SoulCycle. When I travel, I take my TRX with me and work out in my hotel room.
BYRDIE UK: Which experts do you have on speed dial, and why?
CGM: My fitness guru is Kim Caruthers. Her Pilates sessions truly kick my butt.
BYRDIE UK: What does your downtime look like?
CGM: Chilling with my friends, attending concerts (that is my passion), or going to hockey games. I am also really into photography now, and I am always taking photographs of everything.
BYRDIE UK: Who is your beauty icon?
CGM: I have always said Audrey Hepburn; I feel she set a look over 50 years ago that many people adhere to today fashion-wise.
BYRDIE UK: Who do you look to for beauty inspiration?
CGM: Alicia Vikander and Natalie Portman; they have natural beauty.
BYRDIE UK: You’ve said before that your friends come to you for skincare tips. Any you can share with our readers?
CGM: My one big tip is ALWAYS take time to wash your face, no matter how tired you may be.
BYRDIE UK: What’s your earliest beauty memory?
CGM: My brother Trevor started me on eye cream when I was 10 years old, and he was like, “You will not regret this,” and I swear to god I will have the under-eyes of a baby. Cause I’ve been doing eye cream since I was 10 years old; it’s the key.
BYRDIE UK: How do you keep your energy up?
CGM: I love bananas! They provide the perfect amount of energy and potassium on those days where you are running around all day and working out. Oh, and I always have iced green tea with me.
