We spend so much time thinking about our weight, or our bodies, or our diets. It’s exhausting, truly. So when a quick fix or trendy detox comes our way, we’re apt to attempt it—and then quickly fail. And when we look to our favourite celebs, who have the means to book sessions with personal trainers and the schedule that allows for it, it’s even more discouraging. Is it possible to look like your best self while also living a normal, happy life? The short answer is yes. And we’re here to prove it.
We’ve interviewed a slew of gorgeous, toned A-listers who boast a much more lax diet plan—and they work. No crash diets, no crazy cleanses. Each tip they’ve given us is easy to incorporate into your daily life and busy schedule.

>Instead of drinking coffee, opt for green tea. You’ll still get enough of a jolt in the morning, but it won’t be as packed with milk and sugar. And J.Lo’s trainer David Kirsch explains how she keeps her bum looking incredible: “Start with your legs slightly wider than hip-width apart. Lift your right leg from the knee and move it in a circular roundhouse. Land out to the side, wider than you started, and immediately squat down, channeling a real sumo wrestler. As you come out of the squat, lift your right leg and kick out, leading with your heel. Do two to three sets of 15 to 20 reps.” It’s something you can do while you watch TV, cook dinner or even make that green tea in the morning.
Gigi Hadid loves a good burger, so she drinks green juice to keep her diet balanced. Easy enough, right? For a workout, she opts for hour-long sessions with her trainer Rob Piela. (But you can sign up for a class at your local gym.) Hadid says, “You get so into it mentally that you forget you’re working out, so by the end of the hour, you always want more.” Plus, it’s a proven stress reducer. And who doesn’t need that?
Jennifer Lawrence has made it clear that she loves not-so-healthy foods. So instead of dieting, she works out to sculpt her arms and legs. Her personal trainer Dalton Wong explains how you can do it at home: “I don’t work any muscle group in isolation, as it is important to work the whole body as a unit. But for sculpted legs, I tend to focus on the big exercises such as squats, lunges and deadlifts, not just the hamstrings or quads.”
So this is good news. The Victoria’s Secret model’s diet secret is to not skip breakfast. Go for oatmeal with raisins and egg whites, or Muesli with yogurt and honey. Then, Lima explains, “I notice that my body really transforms from even just 30 minutes [of running] a day. If you don’t like doing it, find something to motivate you—cute new workout clothes, an amazing playlist, a great scenic path or a [fitness] buddy.”
Lily Collins sticks to an eating plan that allows indulgences but not overindulging. That way, you can eat your favorite foods and fend off weight gain. Collins also loves to dance, which coincidentally is a great workout. “I recently started doing some dance classes at Body by Simone, which were really fun. You feel really empowered, and it’s fun even if you don’t know all the dance moves,” she says. “You leave and you feel so incredible.”
>Beyoncé eats a vegan diet, which, yes, is difficult to commit to. But you can reap the benefits by eating mostly plant-based foods and allowing yourself cheat days. “I eat pizza, but I eat it moderately,” Bey admitted. She also does a hybrid move in the gym to keep her waist toned. Fitness guru Marco Borges says his favourite move for Beyoncé is a combination of a push-up and a side kick. “The push-up works the muscles of the chest, arms and shoulders while also toning the core,” he says. “The side kick works the obliques, which pull in the sides of the core to cause the hourglass effect.”
Lea Michele also allows herself a few vices in her diet. She eats vegan at home, vegetarian on the road and meat when she can be sure that it was responsibly sourced. Pretty much, moderation is key. The actress told Women’s Health, “I love eating, but I eat what fuels me. And if it’s not gonna fuel me, then it’ll fuel my soul—like pizza.” To work it off, she goes for a quick hike or nature walk. “I’m really close with Becca [Tobin], who was on Glee with me, and we go hiking all the time,” she said. “I hike on trails about four times a week; I love being outside.”
