One of our favourite events of the year is the Cannes Film Festival. Not only because it's an incredible place to spy gorgeous red carpet gowns, but also because it offers some serious hair and makeup inspiration. And not just for special occasions, there are some pretty epic beauty ideas you can steal and wear right now. From tousled waves and easy half-up styles to punchy bold lips, we've selected the knockout looks we know you'll want to try this week and beyond.

Clémence Poésy has gone for a romantic look here. It's all rather undone but super chic and looks like it requires minimal effort. The face is nearly bare save for a touch of sheer pink lipstick and highlighter in the middle of the eyes, we recommend something like Mac's Eye Shadow in Crystal Avalanche (£13). The low messy bun finishes off the look to perfection.
This is basically the makeup equivalent of power dressing. To match her tux, Charlize has gone for a slicked back tightly-wound low bun, which requires a lot of hairspray. We love Percy&Reed's Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray (£6). Finish with dark eyes and nude lip for the ultimate fierce look.
Kirsten Dunst has impressed us in the beauty and fashion stakes at Cannes this year. At the closing ceremony, the star kept it simple with a low bun and loose tendrils to frame her face. She also showcased a great use of highlighter. We love Barry M's Strobe Cream (£5) to get a similar effect.
This is a seriously gorgeous look for Rosie. While she always looks fantastic on the red carpet, that slick of scarlet lipstick really brings out the drama in her gown. Try Mac's Ruby Woo (£16) for a classic take on the red lip.
Marion Cotillard has had a stellar red carpet season at Cannes. This softer version of the smokey eye, using brown instead of black, brings out the blue of her eyes. We love Laura Mercier's Extreme Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette (£45). The extreme side parting on the hair is a real nod to old-school glamour while still giving Marion her signature edge.
This look is so easy but so chic. Lea Seydoux's bob is just the right side of grown out. The subtle eyeliner means all the attention isn't just drawn to her red lips. For a truly thin line, try Topshop's Magic Liner in Engraved (£7).
While most prefer to line their top lids, here Kim's makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic has opted to give her a reverse cat eye. The liner underneath is best recreated using a thicker kohl pencil. Try Charlotte Tilbury's Colour Chameleon Eye Shadow Pencil in Black Diamonds (£19) to do this under eye style.
For Karlie Kloss' cute look, start with a blowdry first. The real show-stopping part of this style, however, is the black hair band. We love New Look's Black Bow Alice Band (£2).
A more romantic look for Jourdan Dunn who usually prefers a sharp bob, this is a sweet change for the model. At the front loose tendrils fall around her face, while at the back, it's rolled into a low bun. Use a set of hair grips (£2) to set in place.
Model Irina Shayk pulls off the no makeup look on the red carpet with aplomb here. To get this effect, you need to have seriously good skin. For a dewy coverage but without caking your face with too much makeup, go for Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream (£24).
After being away from the Cannes red carpet for 15 years, Kate Moss made a welcome return. And what a return it was. Wearing a stunning red gown by Halston, her hair was loosely pulled back into a bun, with makeup by Moss' long-time friend, Charlotte Tilbury. In a post on Tilbury's Instagram, the makeup artist revealed that she gave the iconic model her signature Dolce Vita look. Even better, you can learn how to do this look in this YouTube tutorial by Tilbury. She also revealed that she used her Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation (£30) on Moss to create a flawless finish.
Kendall Jenner rarely breaks out of her beauty box but here we like the edgy, slicked-back hairstyle. Not only does it perfectly complement her dramatic earrings, it's also ideal for warm summer nights. Other than lots of hairspray, you'll also need to ensure your locks are moisturised well. Try Moroccan Oil's Hydrating Styling Cream (£21).
On paper, this shouldn't work. For starters, the rule of going heavy on the eye or heavy on the lips, never both, has been broken. And then there's the fact that Aishwarya is wearing a pastel purple colour on her lips. But in practice this actually looks incredible. Try this mauve lipstick by Barry M Lip Paint in Lavender (£5) for a similar style.
A low ponytail shouldn't be glamorous but it is. In order to recreate Marion's chic 'do, make sure that you have some decent styling tools such as GHD's IV Styler (£99) to really smooth down hair, just make sure you add some heat protection spray before. We recommend Bumble and Bumble's BB Styling Lotion (£21) to avoid any hair breakages.
Natural hair is back. This style is often championed by the forever-chic French women and who better to prove our point that Vanessa Paradis. Braid damp hair before bed but add in some extra moisturise such as Windle & Moodie's Invisible Day and Night Cream (19).
You know when you're on holiday (or even mid week, for that matter), and you can't be bothered to really blow dry your hair? Well, then let this easy style be your guide. Kirsten Dunst has opted for a cute-yet-simple look that requires minimal effort. Allow hair to dry naturally, run a little John Frieda Frizz Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist (£5) to add a bit of definition and then casually pin hair up in a bun, allowing tendrils to fall around the face.
Riley Keough's hair looks low-key and effortless from the front, but...
Riley enlisted the Kardashians' favourite hairstylist Jen Atkin to create this fishtail braided bun. We love.
How amazing is this Dutch braid, Jen created on Riley for the American Honey photocall? When it comes to braids, apparently bigger is better.
Lily takes winged liner up a notch by layering over yellow god eyeshadow. Keeping her lips nude and her hair effortless means the whole look isn't too done. Re-create that golden eye with MAC Pigment (£16) in Old Gold.
Bella Hadid's natural complexion is accentuated by a gorgeous mink-coloured palette across her eyes, cheeks and lips. MAC's Boldly Bare Lipliner (£13), is ideal for creating this subtle hue.
We all know that Blake Lively is the queen of tousled waves, but for the first day at Cannes, the star opted to put her curls up in a ponytail. To get a similar look, you need to add some serious texture to your hair. Do this by spraying Balmain's Texturizing Salt Spray (£23) after towel-drying your locks.
A half-up, half-down 'do is such an easy look to achieve, just ensure that you have a real glow to your hair. Color Wow's Pop and Lock Shellac Gloss (£14) is ideal to run through your locks after styling.
A low bun is a classic glamorous look but requires a decent bottle of hairspray. Percy & Reed Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray (£12) will give you the hold that's required.
Ah, the red lip. A surefire way to look gorgeous whatever the event. While you probably already have your favourite, when you want long-lasting colour, try Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Luxembourg (£19).
We love an intricate braid as much as the next person, but this is a refreshingly simple take on a three-strand plait, and it looks great paired with that standout lip.
