The art of glow and shadow is every beauty girl’s holy grail. By now, you know that Burberry's S/S 16 runway was full of models sporting this enviable face, and lucky for us, our friends at Sephora, with the help of Burberry artistic makeup consultant Wendy Rowe (who has been creating the beauty looks for the Burberry shows for the last 15 years), show us how to re-create the look. As Rowe explains, the skin was all about highlights and shadow falling into the shape of your face—in other words, a much subtler way of contouring and highlighting.
To re-create this luminous look, Rowe started with the face contour and highlight to make the shading less detectable, using Burberry’s Face Contour-Effortless Contouring Pen Face & Eyes ($37). Rowe used the versatile product on the model’s cheeks, on her nose, and under her jawline to help sculpt the face. Then Rowe used Burberry’s Beauty Sheer Luminous Concealer ($40) as a highlighter on Anderson’s cheekbones, down her nose, and in her Cupid’s bow and popped a little bit in the inner eye socket to open the face and create a dreamy, candlelit look. (We also like Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Luminous Concealer ($40) to get the same glowing effect.) Wendy followed by spreading a light nude powder foundation across the face and skipping the heavy contour.
Our favourite takeaway from the British beauties? When model Amber Anderson explained Rowe’s philosophy on makeup: You want people to say “You look amazing!” rather than “Your makeup looks amazing!” We might have steal that mantra for ourselves!
