Given the runaway popularity of rose gold last year, we probably should have guessed that 2017's It hair colour would be an iteration on the trend. Sure enough, cool girls everywhere are emerging with newly pastel-coloured locks—and while it's certainly close to the delicate pink shade we know and love, this year's take is a little different.
Meet Sunset Blonde, the sheer peachy hue that you can expect to see everywhere in 2017. Also referred to as "blorange" (blood orange), the shade mimics the soft, colour-tinged light of early evening, which might give you an idea of just how flattering it is—photographers call that time of day "golden hour" for a reason, after all.
We can trace the origins of this trend back to hairstylist Alex Brownsell, co-founder of the salon Bleach London, who first experimented with the orange-tinged take on rose gold on a very high-profile client: Georgia May Jagger. Sure enough, the model posted her new look to Instagram late last fall, and the hue swiftly took off.
As you can see, the colour works on any shade of blonde, from gold to platinum. (And it looks just as pretty with dark roots, too.) Like rose gold, the pastel hue will fade fairly quickly, but it usually settles into a pretty golden blonde. To keep the sunset hue for as long as possible, you'll want to invest in a colour-saving shampoo: Davines Nounou Shampoo (£15) is a great one.
