Every few years a game-changing product is invented—the Clarisonic, BB cream, matte liquid lipstick, to name a few. But this new invention, this ingenious feat of beauty engineering, is something I wish I had invented. In fact, I kinda did (hear me out).

For years I have been telling any beauty brand founder who will listen that the world wants, nay, needs an SPF that can be applied over makeup. We're told that sun protection is only really effective if we re-apply every few hours but once a woman's makeup is in place she's not going to take it off come midday to apply more SPF. Heck, Kim K waits until evening to cry so it doesn't ruin her look. It's just not happening.
That's why I've been asking everyone for the last four years for a mist that also boasts sun protection, so we can apply SPF easily over our makeup. And now, finally, Bioderma, inventor of the world's favourite micellar water, has combined water and SPF in a spray. Enter (with much fanfare and whooping) the Bioderma Hydrabio Eau de Soin SPF 30 (£12).
Sadly I can't lay claim to this invention since Bioderma was not one of the brands I begged.
So how does it work? UV filters, along with humectants and emollients, have been dissolved into the water so the mist imparts a very lightweight, hydrating and protecting film onto the skin or over your makeup. You get a hefty SPF 30 protection without the heavy, chalky consistency you can often find with high factors. Like most existing mists it sets makeup and also acts as a refresh come the afternoon. It means you can happily apply sun protection throughout the day on city breaks where the scorching sun can often wreak havoc on our oft sun-starved faces. It also means for anyone with troublesome skin you can wear concealer poolside and still be sun safe. It's the SPF that goes over and above (literally).
