>It will happen. You know, when you tap on the weather app and all those teeny raincloud icons switch to glorious little rays of sunshine. And sunny days call for a new pair of sunglasses, but take note—a new set of frames may also call for a small makeup update.
>With eyes firmly shielded behind your eyewear and eye shadow seeming quite pointless, it's up to your lipstick to do the talking while working in tandem with your chosen frames. So I asked a sunglasses buyer at Linda Farrow to round up the top trending styles of the season, and two makeup experts to decode which lipstick hue will best flatter the look. Keep scrolling for the expert-approved combos they came up with…
>Wear: Dries Van Noten D-Frame Sunglasses in Tortoiseshell (£230)
>With: “An orange-based red will really help to mirror the warmth of the tortoiseshell,” says Nilofar Mussa, senior educator at the Illamasqua School of Makeup Art.
>Wear: Jeremy Scott Special Sunglasses in Tangerine (£250). “With statement glasses like these, it’s more that you suit the style than the style suits you,” says Tracy Sedino, art director at Linda Farrow.
>With: You might as well go all-out and “use a clashing tone—like a bright fuchsia—to stand up to the brightness of the glasses,” says Mussa. “If you want to channel cartoon kitsch chic, add a slick of gloss on top.”
>Wear: Linda Farrow Cat Eye Sunglasses in Clear (£650), which are “universally flattering, thanks to the half-moon frames, which suit all face shapes,” says Sedino.
>With: Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil (£19) in Red Berry. MAC senior artist Debbie Finnegan recommends “mimicking the translucency of the frames with a see-through lip stain,” and this sheer, tinted lip oil will do just that.
>Wear: Linda Farrow Aviator Sunglasses in Rose Gold (£720). “They’re oversize, so can hide a multitude of sins, and the longer lens balances out a round-shaped face as the elongating teardrop style adds length to your features,” advises Sedino.
>With: Lancôme Juicy Shaker (£18) in Mangoes Wild. “By wearing an ultra-glossy coral lip with these classic frames, you can channel 1970s Miami,” says Mussa.
>Wear: 3.1 Phillip Lim Angular Sunglasses in Clear Blue Flowers (£210). “Whether or not you have high cheekbones, the rounded shape of these frames will help to give the illusion,” says Sedino.
>With: Illamasqua Lipstick (£20) in ESP. “A cool-toned violet is the perfect partner for the blues and purples in these frames,” says Mussa.
>Wear: Matthew Williamson Special Sunglasses in Pink Clear Gradient (£220). “The width gives proportion to facial features. Plus, frames with a clear bridge, like these, give more definition and help to widen your eyes.”
>With: Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color (£20) in Peach Sorbet. It’s a sheer, soft, balmy lipstick that’s shot with subtle gilded shimmer, which perfectly fits Finnegan's recommendation for a “neutral colour with a gold fleck to complement the hint of metallic in these glasses.”
