As soon as we realised we would never develop hands steady enough to achieve a publicly acceptable nail polish job ourselves, manicure appointments have become a fortnightly mainstay in our diaries. But when we do come around to parting with hard-earned cash, we like to book that nail appointment with the guarantee that we'll emerge with the glossy nails and trimmed cuticles of our dreams—not a disappointing bodge job we could have done ourselves. And that kind of guarantee can only come from a trustworthy recommendation.
So for this instalment of our Byrdie City Guides series, we've asked some of our favourite Manchester bloggers where they head to for an Instagram-worthy manicure that doesn't disappoint in their home city. Whether you're a Manchester resident looking for a new local or you're planning a trip to the city, keep scrolling to find out the nail salons these bloggers have on speed dial.
Barn/it, city centre

>"They do every treatment going at this salon, but they are the best for nails! Their beauty therapist, Kelsey, is so talented. I personally like to get red half-moon manicures, Dita Von Teese–style. I always go back because I love the quirky décor (#goals), the super-friendly staff that are always welcoming, and there's even a bar on the nail floor! This is a huge plus for me. Who doesn't want a cocktail while getting their nails done? Perfect for pre–night out prep!"
>Price: A manicure costs £23 and a gel manicure costs £38.

Beauty and Bubbles, Northern Quarter

"I love to go here to get my Shellac done because it's literally across the road from where I live, so it's very convenient. Plus, they always give you a complimentary glass of bubbles, which makes it such a nice, special experience. The salon itself is quite simple, but everyone there is so nice."
Price: A full manicure costs £15; a Shellac manicure costs £25.
