Experts Agree: These Are the Best Vitamins for Healthy Hair
It's no secret that healthy hair starts from within. You can use the fanciest shampoos and the most luxurious serums, but if your diet isn't up-to-scratch, it will show in your hair.
Healthy hair looks strong, shiny and at its thickest. Sure, genetics play a role in your hair type and texture, but there are ways to boost your hair health from within.
So we called upon four hair experts—from hairstylists to consultant dermatologists—to find out what they rate as the best hair vitamins. Keep reading to find out what hair vitamins they take, and what they recommend to their clients…
Patrick Wilson, GHD Creative Artist
"Maintaining the health of hair is so important—especially when we put it through frequent stresses of heat styling (particularly above the optimum temperature of 185 degrees), colour processing and environmental factors such as pollution and UV rays. I love Perfectil Plus Hair because it’s packed with key ingredients that provide nutritional support to nourish hair from the inside out, helping to keep it in optimal condition."
Justine Hextall, Consultant Dermatologist
"As we get older, the hair follicles (as a general rule) tend to get smaller and hair becomes finer. Studies of supplements such as Viviscal have shown not only reduced hairs drop but also an increase in the diameter of the actual hairs coming through. This shows the importance of supporting the vital vitamins and minerals required for healthy hair growth, particularly as we get older. Along with taking hair vitamins, a healthy balanced diet, exercise and managing stress are equally important too."
Adam Reed, Founder of Percy & Reed London
"I have a few different hair vitamins I often recommend to my clients. Bare Biology Lion Heart is a brilliant source of Omega Oils that really helps to strengthen hair. Viviscal is also brilliant for those people wanting to grow their hair or improve its overall condition. It's especially great if you have fine hair.
I was recently recommended that I add Magnesium Citrate Supplements (£8) into my diet for overall health and hair benefits. Finally, I also like to take Floradix on the run-up to Christmas to keep my immune system in great health.
Marie Reynolds, Wellness and Skin Health Expert
"Within our blood, we have tissue salts that can become deficient, which, in turn, can cause all kinds of hair issues," says Reynolds. The wellness and skin expert says she can prescribe tissue salts depending on what the hair issue is.
"For general hair loss, I'd recommend taking Calc. Fluro (Calcium Fluoride). For dandruff, something like Kali. Phos (Potassium Phosphate) can help (it can also be dissolved in cold water for a final hair rinse). Silica is also great for split ends and general hair health. Again, this can be dissolved in water for a final hair rinse."
