Though the swag may be eclipsing it in 2015, 2014 was no doubt the year of the lob. In addition to the wildly popular cut, the beauty world was blessed by Beyonce’s baby bangs, Coco Rocha’s blunt bob, and Julianne Hough’s surprising pixie crop. Click through to recap the year’s absolute best haircuts!
Hough began 2014 with a brand new look—and surprised us all—when she stepped out in January with a closely-cropped pixie cut. In our exclusive interview with her, Hough told us it was a completely spontaneous decision in the moment. “I went in just thinking I was going to get a little trim, and end up coming out with a full-on pixie cut. I thought it would be fun to dance with,” she said.
Dunn debuted her slightly angled A-Line cut at this year’s VMA’s awards in August, and it remained our favorite celebrity lob of the year.
Stewart stepped out in July with an edgy new cut courtesy of hair stylist Ken O'Rourke, then further shortened the ‘do in October (for some people, once you start cutting, you can’t stop: See, Lauren Conrad). Both cuts were spur-of-the-moment decisions, and suit the cool, tomboy-leaning actress better than a more basic style.
Hale debuted her lob on Instagram just before Thanksgiving of this year: A textured cut done at the same hands of Lauren Conrad’s lob creator, hair stylist Kristin Ess.
It’s hard to keep up with Beyonce’s hair transformations as the performer seems to debut a new cut, color, and/or style multiple times per week (all the more reason to love her), but perhaps our favorite Queen Bey cut and style of 2014 was her short-lived baby bangs. They were a daring hair choice that not many could pull of, but of course if anyone can pull off a hair risk and look incredible, it’s Beyoncé.
The Hills alum and mom of two said goodbye to her quintessential California beach waves in favor of a polished yet still playful lob—a transformation that we exclusively documented here.
Certainly a cut only for the risk-takers, Coco Rocha’s blunt bob with equally blunt bangs framed her cheekbone-prominent face like a work of art.
Agron took her hair from classic to edgy-cool with a wavy lob and platinum blonde color to match.
We didn’t think Emma Stone’s hair could get more enviable until she traded in her feathery layers for a textured, chin-grazing bob that looked fresh and modern.
