In the interest of saving space, you can blend concealer and foundation into skin with your fingers with lovely results, but powder blush always requires a brush for an even finish. We like Sephora Collection’s Pro Airbrush Blush Brush ($32) and Eco Tools’ Bamboo Blush Brush ($9).
The most versatile brush you’ll stow in your bag is a medium-sized powder brush. The fluffy texture collects less product than a blush brush, allowing you to go back and forth between colors and formulas without washing the brush. It seamlessly applies mineral foundation, setting and translucent powder, and highlighter; plus bronzer and contour to your cheeks, forehead, and jawline. (You’ll need a smaller brush to contour your nose.) We like It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Brush ($48) and Boots No7 Powder Brush ($10).
Whether you want to create a smoky eye, or a subtle wash of color, the one eye brush you absolutely need is a classic eye shadow brush. Use the wider side to apply shimmery beige for everyday, then add darker hues in the socket and lid with the thinner side for a smoky look. Pick up Sephora’s Classic Must Have Powder Shadow Brush #60 ($15) or Maybelline’s Eyeshadow Brush ($6).
