The return of crop tops and floral print baby doll dresses has us feeling all nostalgic for the decade that brought us Clueless, My So-Called Life, and boy bands. However, just a quick jaunt down memory lane is all it takes to remind us of the less-than-fly beauty trends that dominated the decade.

Lip gloss really hit its stride in the ‘90s. But before super shiny Juicy Tubes ($18) lined the insides of every handbag (and tiny backpack) in the America, women turned to frosted hues. Why take a perfectly good pink gloss and add an icy silver sheen to it? That’s a question we can’t answer.
Long before the days of balayage, ‘90s women presented their stylists with the unusual task of making their hair color look distinctly unnatural. For reasons we can’t quite fathom, chunky highlights, consisting of streaks of contrasting color (think Geri Halliwell, a.k.a. Ginger Spice, with platinum streaks sprinkled throughout her fiery red hair) was the color technique of choice.
If the thought of brick brown lipstick doesn’t conjure up images of vintage Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston circa season two of Friends, and Shannen Doherty as Brenda on Beverly Hills, 90210, then you probably don’t consider yourself a ‘90s girl.
