Victoria Beckham x Estée Lauder: The Byrdie Verdict
It has been six months since Victoria Beckham teased her collaboration with Estée Lauder on Instagram. The collection out today is split into four looks inspired the designer's favourite cities: New York, London, L.A., and Paris. All the products are inscribed with VB's initials and housed in either ribbed gold or black packaging, while the compacts boast a gold-rimmed, black leather-look finish. It's the kind of attention to detail we would expect from these two powerhouse brands. Beckham said of her latest venture, "I want to make women feel empowered, to feel sexy and confident. This makeup does that. I love to make women feel like the best version of themselves." We've tried the products, and there are a few that are well worth stocking up on…
The Lipstick (£36) was the first product to make it into my makeup bag. I've loved Estée Lauder lipsticks ever since my mum would take me with her when she stocked up on new shades from the counter in my local Boots. They are pigment-rich and unbelievably comfortable to wear, and this version doesn't disappoint. The Brazilian Nude shade perfects lips, hydrates and adds a hint of chic-looking colour (you can even apply without a mirror). It's my new go-to.
Illuminating Creme in Morning Aura (£68) is a two-in-one moisturiser and primer that serves as the perfect base for makeup, it gives skin a healthy, well-rested sheen. After blending this in, my complexion looked so much brighter and healthier that I didn't need to pack on quite as much foundation as usual. Impressive.
I'm not usually an eye shadow fan, but the Eye Foils (£28) impart a wash of high-shine sparkle that give you that cool-girl wet look but without having to contend the stickiness of gloss. I applied a little of the Burnt Anise shade (a charcoal) and then patted it into the lid for a sheer effect, but you can layer it on for a ramped-up party look.
The Bronzer in Java Sun (£48) is super matte, which on the skin looks more real than a shimmer would. The key to a great bronzer like this is that it's not too pigment-rich, so you can build up the colour gradually for a more natural sun-kissed effect.
The only sticking point is that being a capsule collection not every product will suit everyone, but as first collections go, VB has created a winner. She has hinted before that Victoria Beckham Beauty could one day become a reality, and if this is anything to go by, we are holding her to that.
