Editors' Beach Picks
Even the most enthusiastic beauty junkies tone it down for a day at the beach. But there are some products--from sunscreen to hair oil--that our editors haul from Malibu to the Hamptons. Click through for their must-haves!
“Most waterproof or water-resistant mascaras are a) impossible to take off and b) make my lashes look really stiff--but not this one,” Kerr says of Clinique’s Bottom Lash Mascara ($10). “Though technically made for lower lashes, it works wonderfully on your top lashes as well.”
“I know I need sunscreen--I'm fair! I'm vain! I don't want cancer!--but it always invariably clogs my pores and makes me break out,” says Kerr. She favors Colorescience Sunforgettable Mineral Sunscreen ($50) instead. And for her lips? “Fresh's really luxurious Sugar Lip Treatment ($23) in Coral gives me enough SPF coverage and color.”
“I didn’t really wear sunscreen until last year--I didn’t think my Arab skin could burn! But now I’m constantly spraying La Roche Posay Anthelios 30 Ultra Light Sunscreen Spray ($36) all over my body,” says Aboutaleb. “It’s light, doesn’t smell, and I still get color.”
"At the pool I apply deep conditioner onto the ends of my hair, wrap them into a bun, and let it bake in,” says Lebsack. “Right now I’m using Ojon’s Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment Plus ($33)--it’s a thick solid that warms to oil and makes my hair super soft.” She also works Tarte’s Bronze & Glow Matte Bronzer & Cheek Tint ($32) into her poolside routine.
“The convenience of a sunscreen stick is unparalleled,” says Lebsack. “You can use it to touch up your face, protect scars, and cover the areas around your swimsuit that always seem to burn first.” California Baby Sunscreen Stick ($16) is her favorite, and after applying sunscreen, she rubs Givenchy’s Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip and Cheek Balm ($31) into her cheeks and on her lips: “The sheer balm reacts with your skin’s pH to turn lips a rosy shade of pink.”
“I always bring a spray sunscreen to the beach, Lancaster Invisible Mist Wet Skin Sun Sport ($38),” says Power. “And I always wear a hat to protect my face from the sun.”
