This Sticker Could Save Your Skin From Sunburn

When you think of a piece of wearable tech, what springs to mind? Apple Watch, Fitbit, Jawbone Up? You see, wearable tech is so synonymous with the wristband that you could be forgiven for thinking this blue heart (pictured, below) was just another cutesy transfer when actually it's a super-technological advancement in the skincare and wearable tech world.

The research team at L'Oréal have been busy working on this little patch that measures how much UV you're exposed to—UVA being the ageing ray and UVB the one that burns. And yes, while we may not be getting much sun now, we're told that big yellow thing in the sky will come back, honest. We digress… the more sun you get the more the patch changes colour; you can check in with the patch via a free iOS and Android app that reveals whether you should be shade—not sun—seeking. See, smart.

The team plan to give the sticker away free with La Roche-Posay sun care later this year. And it's the perfect addition to your festival get-up, no? We're just hoping they'll bring out more designs because we're not all blue heart-wearing kinda gals. But then again, whatever helps us be a bit more mindful of our sun exposure gets the big thumbs up from us.

Now, if they could just invent a patch to measure skin-harming pollution levels for city dwellers and another to check how much health-boosting vitamin D we're getting that would be great—thanks, L'Oréal!

Would you wear this patch in the name of sun saftey? Sound off in the comment box below.
