You'd be excused for thinking that Rooney Mara had opted for a simple high ponytail at last night's Golden Globe Awards. But not Mara; the actress often takes calculated beauty gambles for her red carpet appearances (that always pay off) and this outing was no exception. You see, from the back Mara's hair is really quite elaborate. Keep scrolling to see Rooney Mara's unusual braid hairstyle.

Mara called on the intricate hairstyling skills of Adir Abergel to create this standout braid. Here's the step-by-step guide to re-creating the look at home:
Step 1: Work a little oil to dry hair.
Step 2: Straighten your hair all over so it is really smooth and straight.
Step 3: As if you were doing a top knot, create a parting from the top of your left ear across to your right.
Step 4: Secure the top section into a ponytail with a hair elastic.
Step 5: Repeat with the lower section of hair securing into a ponytail at the nape of your neck.
Step 6: Work some John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray (£6) through both ponytails, roughing up the texture. Dry with a hairdryer.
Step 7: Start braiding the top ponytail and as you reach the bottom ponytail merge it by braiding the two together. Secure with a hair elastic at the bottom.
Step 8: Using a little more salt spray and your fingers open up and deconstruct the braid.
Step 9: Finish with hairspray to tame any flyaways.
