As you get older and start to age, it’s natural to become more self-conscious about your skin. It’s easy to find all the flaws you’re unhappy with rather than focusing on ways to improve your appearance, not to mention your confidence. But before you go to extremes convincing yourself that you need plastic surgery in order to look and feel good, it’s important to evaluate what your strengths and weaknesses are in terms of your skincare routine. “Everyone is guilty of not wearing SPF on a consistent basis, year-round, rain or shine,” explains Dr. Gregory Brown, plastic surgeon and founder of RéVive skincare. “Most people are also guilty of not keeping their skincare routine simple and basic. We have a natural tendency to overdo and, as a result, irritate the skin.” So instead of making an appointment to go under the knife, read Dr. Brown’s helpful advice.

“You can’t take back what you did in the past, but you can prevent further damage from occurring,” says Dr. Brown. “Being from Kentucky, I think of farmers and how the areas of the body that aren’t protected and exposed to the sun look like leather, whereas the areas that are covered are soft and smooth.”
“People want everything possible [in terms of plastic surgery] to address aging. Wrinkles and sagging are a part of the aging process, but the vibrancy and health of the skin are what matters most,” says Dr. Brown. “Skincare can address those where surgery can’t. Being able to achieve a natural, youthful glow is what people want and notice the most.”
