3 Ways to Do Statement Sleek Hair From the People's Choice Awards

Amy Lawrenson

Sleek hair can make a real statement. Super straight, super shiny and directional, it's a hair texture that takes guts. Which is why we wanted to applaud this trio of stars who walked the red carpet at the People's Choice Awards last night demonstrating three totally different ways to rock a sleek 'do. Keep scrolling for off-the-charts hair inspiration.

The Origami Topknot

Julianne Hough's topknot is next level! By wrapping the mid lengths of her hair around the bun, pinning them in place and leaving the ends sticking out it looks like origami. Straighten your hair before pulling up into a topknot, then use L'Oréal Professionnel Tecni Art Fix Spray (£9) and your fingers to manipulate the ends into razor-sharp points.

The High-Shine Centre Part

The Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell offset her high-neck dress with a sleek down 'do. Pulling her hair off her face in a strong centre parting and tucking it behind her ears adds drama to her overall look (those incredible false lashes help, too). We love the glass-like shine—to get the look stylist Chris Appleton used Matrix Style Link Smooth Setter Smoothing Cream (£8) to tame frizz before straightening. He then tamed flyaways and amped up the shine with Matrix Style Link Gloss Booster (£10) before misting with hairspray.

The Dual-Textured Ponytail

We wonder whether co-stars and pals Shay and Ashley Benson compared hair notes before the awards? Ashley opted for a shiny centre parting too, but juxtaposed it with a natural textured low-slung ponytail. Heart.
