Oscars 2016: See the Best Beauty Looks of the Evening
We find it fitting that each year, the beauty looks at the Oscars round out award season by going out with a bang. While practically regal in nature, the red carpet-grazing dresses are oft-accompanied by swoon-worthy hair and makeup we can only one day dream of replicating ourselves. It truly is an evening fit for Hollywood's royalty, and we've been chomping at the bit waiting for each look to make its debut. And after the jaw-dropping looks at last year's Academy Awards (remember Emma Stone's pinned-up do and Chrissy Teigen's vampy plum lip?), we knew we'd have a lot to look forward to this year. Keep scrolling to check out our favourite looks of the night!
Rooney's structural three-tiered updo is just the sort of hard-hitting style we'd expect from the Carol actress, but pair it with her flawless pale complexion and deep crimson lip and we're totally entranced by the look.

We love Brie's soft smoky eye and pink lip but it was her ornate hairstyle that caught our attention. Hairstylist Mark Roszak sectioned Brie's hair into a half updo, twisting pieces of hair around the Jennifer Behr Chignon Wrap with Double Comb (£833) for added drama.
Lawrence's mega-blond mane didn't need to be placed into a fancy updo—it speaks for itself. With a simple middle part and well-placed volume, we couldn't imagine a better 'do for the nominee.
Wilde's makeup artist, Mélanie Inglessis for Revlon said that she was inspired by the ethereal look of Wilde's Valentino Couture dress. She also wanted to "incorporate [Olivia's] coolness"—which we totally get (psst—check out her seriously cool-girl braided updo). To get that soft, smoky eye, Inglessis swiped Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eyeshadow (£8) across Wilde's lids and also smudged colors #2 and #4 along the lower lash line.
Who says you can't match your lip color to your dress? Olivia Munn proved that pairing an orange pout with her stunning orange gown was a smart choice. The hue-matcher was none other than makeup artist Patrick Ta, who painted Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Color (£26) in Excentrique and Pimpante on Munn's lips.
To achieve Watts's soft, glam waves, hairstylist Cervando for L’Oréal Paris combed Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Volume Inject Mousse through wet hair (try Studio Pro Boost It Volume Mousse, £3, which is available in the UK). Next, he created a side part. Then, he rough dried strands until they were almost fully dry before taking a boar bristle brush to them, and dried the hair in sections, pulling each section away from the face. He then placed the front sections into Velcro rollers, let them set for 20 minutes, then removed them before combing out the hair with a wire brush. Finally, Cervando finished everything off with cult favorite Elnett Hairspray (£8).

Makeup artist Jeanette Lobell created a soft plum smoky eye on Cate. She started by applying Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo (£27) in #15 all over the lid and into the crease. She then wrapped this shadow down and around the eye into bottom lash line. Then, Jeanine dampened a liner brush and used Eyes to Kill Solo (£27) in #5 as a liner, creating a blurred, feathered look instead of a harsh line. She layered Eye Tint (£27) in #10 in Cate’s lash line for the smoldering eye effect. Lastly, she tapped Eye Tint (£27) in #8 on the centre of her lid and under her brow bone to open and brighten the eyes.
To mirror Washington's bold leather dress, hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew teased the roots of the hair "just a bit" before placing the hair back into a ponytail, securing it with what else—a leather Versace band.
Reese had quite the glow about her this evening, though that may be due in part to her perfectly carved out cheeks. Makeup artist Molly R. Stern dressed up the actress's cheekbones with Chantecaille Cheek Gelee Hydrating Gel Cream Blush (£33) in Happy followed by Chantecaille Cheek Shade (£20) in Flair.
"Simply stunning" is what we're calling Jennifer Garner's classic look this evening. Her simple—albeit glamorous—low bun and nude makeup were heightened by way of a sultry smoky eye. Paired with a low, sweetheart neckline, we couldn't take our eyes off the presenter.
