Reviewed: La Prairie Anti-Ageing Rapid Response Booster

As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). “Reviewed” is a new series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day, or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favourites in this column. Enjoy!

La Prairie has pretty much secured its reputations as the gold standard in anti-ageing skincare. So when they release a product declaring it their “most accelerated anti-wrinkle serum to date,” you try it. Or at least I did. The product, La Prairie’s Anti-Ageing Rapid Response Booster ($290), comes with some pretty hefty claims. After just 14 days of twice daily use, clinical results show fine lines are reduced by 39 per cent and deeper wrinkles by 42 per cent. How could I not be intrigued? They tout the unique “GPS-like delivery system” (which sends the potent ingredients deep into the skin, targeting the cells responsible for the renewal process) as the breakthrough responsible for such tremendous results. Which all sounds nice, but did it work?

Well, I immediately loved it. The formula is lightweight (I hate when serums are thick or sticky), and it sank right in. (And of course it has the signature La Prairie scent, in case you were wondering.) After the first week, my skin looked great, but I can’t say I noticed any real difference in my fine lines. I will admit I’m tough a critic, so I continued on undiscouraged. At about a week and half, I sent a selfie to a friend (#shameless), and her immediate response was “Omg you have no wrinkles. Not fair.” The conversation then transitioned into discussion of Botox. As a 20-something with a few fine lines on my forehead and nose, Botox is not at the top of my mind. But the fact that my friend thought my forehead looked lineless to the point of Botox results certainly made me feel better my experiment. Now, after two weeks, the lines on my forehead do appear softer. I see less of an improvement in the little lines on my nose (I scrunch my nose when I laugh), but I plan on sticking with the serum.
