Exclusive: Fashion’s Favourite Model Twins Reveal Their Beauty Routines
Model sister pairings are surprisingly commonplace nowadays—Gigi and Bella Hadid, come to mind, as do Cara and Poppy Delevingne. It makes sense—the whole genetic jackpot thing runs in the family, after all. Model twins on the other hand, are less prevalent—which is why the fashion world is currently having a heyday over Kelsey and Baylee Soles. The two doe-eyed twins have caught the eyes of street photographers and designers alike since they were first discovered in their hometown of Hopkins, South Carolina. Nowadays, they spend their time jetsetting from Paris to Tokyo, modelling for brands like Lanvin and walking on runways like Saint Laurent—leggy, lithe, and masters at the art of the perfectly-angled street selfie.
Ever curious about the beauty routines of the genetically blessed, and even more so by the genetically blessed who also happen to share the same genetics, we caught up with the Soles and picked their brains about all things beauty—from the one product they steal from one another, to how their beauty routines differ, if any. Keep scrolling to get to know Kelsey and Baylee Soles!
Can you each describe your beauty routine from start to finish? We’re curious about how they might differ.
Kelsey: My typical beauty routine is pretty simple. I try and use all natural, sulfate-free products on my skin and hair. For my face, I wash it with a concoction of baking soda mixed with water to make a paste. Then, I use a sensitive skin toner and CeraVe Moisturizing Cream ($14). I also use coconut oil on my face and body as a hydrator! Every night before bed, my sister and I make a honey face mask to further soothe our faces. It’s just a mixture of natural raw honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon. This is great for anyone who suffers from pimples! I also do a honey mask on my hair at night when my hair is feeling super dry! If anyone [colors their hair], I totally recommend lathering their hair in honey before their shower. It really helps rebind the ends of my hair, and makes it super smooth the next day.
Baylee: I really love a good beauty routine. Usually, Kelsey and I will both wash our faces each morning—we actually make a light scrub using baking soda and water to lightly cleanse our faces. This way it's a natural product that I always know what the ingredients are. We then tone our faces using a sensitive skin astringent and finish up with a deep moisturizer because we both have pretty dry skin. At night, we put a layer of coconut oil on our skin to rehydrate our skin and just sleep in it.
Sounds like your beauty routines are pretty much the same. Do you have similar skin types, then?
Baylee: Our skin types are pretty similar. Kelsey has naturally very glowy skin— not greasy, but a dry glow. Mine is probably more sensitive to accepting new products.
What about beauty styles—are they similar or different?
Kelsey: When we were younger, I would say that we had really different beauty styles, but now we are more and more similar.
Each of you describe your ideal going-out makeup look—go.
Kelsey: To go out, I normally like to emphasize my eyes with a lot of mascara and maybe some cool shadows. I have been seeing so much blue eye shadow and liner lately on the runways and I am super excited to try it out in daily life!
Baylee: I love to accentuate either my lips or my eyes. If I am going to an event where food will not be involved, I will probably do a cool lip, with nothing on the eyes. But if I want something easy-breezy, I will just throw on a ton of mascara on my top and bottom lashes and keep my face neutral.
You both just wrapped up a whirlwind fashion month. How did you keep your skin and hair in good shape after all the shows?
Kelsey: Hydration is key! During fashion month, a lot of stress is going on in your skin and hair. Doing deep conditioners frequently (L’Oréal has some great products for this) and utilizing oils is key. Also to keep your skin looking young and fresh, taking off makeup right after shows and taking part in proper skin care is super important. During fashion month, I always carry around moisturizing waters to spray on my face regularly, as well as drink lots of water to clean out toxins.
Baylee: The worst part of the day is when you have to keep taking off makeup only to put more on. It's really damaging to your skin. I think the best light makeup removers are oils, along with Bioderma. Always moisturize too, so that your skin doesn't get dehydrated. A great mask to do on your hair at night is a honey mask. Kelsey and I do this so often and really helps build your hair back up after a lot of damage has been done. The honey feels really sticky and almost wrong going in your hair, but when you wash it out, it rinses quite easily and has a fantastic result!
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve learned from your sister?
Baylee: Kelsey taught me the hair mask!
Kelsey: My sister gives me so many great beauty tips! She educated me about how great honey cinnamon masks work on pimples, and that lemon juice is great at getting rid of pimple scarring and aggravated pimples.
What beauty look do you think your sister should try?
Kelsey: My sister and I both have thick hair and a fringe, but it’s great to see my sister wearing her hair back in a tousled pony or maybe a Marc Jacobs-esque top knot! I think she would rock the braided pony from Dior, with a colorful eye to show off her green eyes.
Baylee: I want to see her in wrap-around blue eyeliner.
Your hair is one of the few things that help people tell you apart. Kelsey, how do you keep your blonde strands bright?
Kelsey: I try and stay really natural. Looking clean and fresh is really important to me. To keep my hair color looking fresh without fading, I use color-safe products from L’Oréal.
What’s one spring beauty trend you can’t wait to try?
Baylee: Colored eyeliner!
Kelsey: My sister and I are obsessed!
So—the conclusion is, you two have very similar beauty tastes and routines. Would you agree?
Baylee: We basically do the same beauty routine. We are twins, after all.
Kelsey: Great minds think alike!
