10 Need-to-Know Beauty and Style Secrets Kate Moss Shared With Us

Amy Lawrenson

When you think of Kate Moss's beauty look, you think red or nude lip and that kohl eye she wears so well. Thankfully, Rimmel London made it possible for us all to re-create Moss's signature beauty looks at home, and this year marks 15 years of that collaboration. It’s a lasting relationship that has become a beauty legacy. The model embodies the edgy spirit of London; she’s the epitome of “the London Look” that we all want to get—her style has an incredible power to influence us all.

To signal 15 years, Moss has created a new special-edition collection consisting of six lipsticks and three nail polishes, explaining, “The new anniversary collection echoes some of my favourite London looks from the last decade and a half. I’ve focused on reds and nudes because they’re the colours I love to wear—each shade reflects a different side of me.” In fact, it’s hard to think of a moment since Kate Moss became famous when she has worn—on her own time—any other lip shades. See for yourself: We’ve charted the evolution of Kate Moss's beauty look here.

On the red carpet process…

“No! [I don’t enjoy it]. I get really nervous! I’ll be sat in the car worrying about creases in my dress. I’m so disorganised; I change my mind and don’t always know what I’m going to wear—it makes people nervous!”

On her signature look…

“I’m always about more lip, more bleach, more kohl!”

On her new My Nude Rimmel anniversary collection lipstick…

“It lightens and brightens—it's not nothing; it finishes the look. You don't really need to think about it, you just wear it and go. It’s comfortable.”

On makeup for a night out or gig…

“I like a stronger eye, more black, and I pile on mascara, then just a bit of cheek. It’s comfortable but you still want to have a look. [I don’t wear a red lip because] I’m backstage kissing everyone at gigs, ‘Mwah, you’re amazing.’”

On doing her makeup vs. hair…

“I don't get blow-dries; I can do my own hair. I need a makeup artist."

On her signature liner flick…

“I pull my eye to the side and go from the corner of the eye and guide it up towards the outer corner of the brow. I don't always get it right myself! If it looks right, someone else has probably done it!”

On what she would tell her teenage self…

“Wear sunscreen! I wear La Roche Posay; it’s not greasy. I put it on in the morning. I’m 50 now—the factor, not my age!”

On her beauty mantra…

“Don't take it too seriously! Fun, fun, fun!”

On wardrobe dilemmas…

“I'm not like ‘I have nothing to wear—I'm not going.’ I'm definitely going!”

On her beauty muse…

“Joan Collins! She is 83 but looks 53. I had a selfie with her and she looked younger than me. She looks amazing.”

On makeup touch-ups in London…

“The Chiltern Firehouse downstairs is good for makeup reapplying. I like Claridges; they have tables but there are always lots of people!”

The Rimmel London Anniversary Collection lipsticks (£7) and Super Gel Nail Polishes (£6) will be available from 6 July. Get your lips ready with the Rimmel London Lip Conditioning Balm by Kate (£6).
