Jennifer Aniston's Body-Confident Message Just Rocked Our World

Elinor Block

Jennifer Aniston rarely comments on her private life (if ever, in fact) or on the media scrutiny that she constantly faces. Last night, however, the star, who is married to fellow actor Justin Theroux, hit back at the body-shaming she's encountered and gave us all the most body-positive message ever.

Since the Friends actress isn't on social media, she chose the Huffington Post as a platform to speak out about being tired of the constant speculation over whether or not she's pregnant (she put those recent is she/isn't she rumours to rest, by the way), how she's often hounded by the press and paparazzi, and the reason why body-shaming has to stop.

In the post, the actress, who is the ambassador for beauty brand Living Proof, talked about how the message that "girls are not pretty unless they’re incredibly thin" is damaging so many women.

"That [women are] not worthy of our attention unless they look like a supermodel or an actress on the cover of a magazine is something we’re all willingly buying into. This conditioning is something girls then carry into womanhood," she continues.

However, the really empowering message comes when Aniston says "we get to decide for ourselves what is beautiful when it comes to our bodies. That decision is ours and ours alone. Let’s make that decision for ourselves and for the young women in this world who look to us as examples. Let’s make that decision consciously, outside of the tabloid noise. We don’t need to be married or mothers to be complete. We get to determine our own 'happily ever after' for ourselves."

Hear, hear.
