This Jem and the Holograms Makeup Tutorial Is SO Cool

We absolutely loved Jem and the Holograms growing up and have already predicted it will be the Halloween costume of 2015. But have you thought out how you're going to re-create the iconic beauty look of the original all-girl punk band? If not, you're in luck. Angela Lanter of Hello Gorgeous is giving Byrdie readers an exclusive first look at this amazing Jem-inspired makeup tutorial, perfect for your all your upcoming Halloween parties.

Our number one concern with pulling off Jem's classic stage look was creating the edgy pink eye, and Lanter provided the perfect guide for how to do it. Make sure you start with clean skin and a primer base—then it's time to focus on those eyes. Lanter started by drawing the diamond shapes around her eyes and filling in the upper lash line with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Cosmetic Colour Pencils ($16) in Anime. Next, using Anastasia Beverly Hills Waterproof Créme Colour ($18) in Barbie Pink, Lanter filled in the shapes around her eyes with a brush to apply the electric colour. Using a shimmery gold shadow, like Urban Decay Cosmetics Eyeshadow ($19) in Blunt, Lanter created a highlight below the brow bone and in the low corner of the diamond, then added a loose pigment to illuminate the eyelid, inner crease, and rest of the diamond design with the sparkly shadow. For the final touch, she used Make Up For Ever Glitters ($15) in Multicolored White and Ben Nye Glitter Glue ($5) to add some sparkle under the brow bone and the low corner of the diamond, turning up the volume on the entire look.

Our favourite trick for this electric eye? Lanter used a piece of clear Scotch tape to blot all the excess glitter off her face before applying her foundation, making sure her skin was clear and smooth before completing her look. Genius! Don't forget to top the look off with Jem's signature hot-pink lipstick—we like Nyx Cosmetics Round Case Lipstick ($4) in Hot Pink or Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar ($9) in Nylon for that perfect bubblegum pink.
