When makeup artist Maria Comparetto headed to the test for the makeup at Daks, she went armed with her makeup kit (of course). The look they wanted was a strong dark smoky eye that was both Victoriana and '70s, as well as a rich lip.
When it came to choosing the lip shade, Filippo Scuffi, Daks’s creative director, realised that MAC’s Eye Kohl (£14) in Costa Riche was the exact colour of their 40th-anniversary check.
Rather than Maria painstakingly mixing the colour out of lipsticks, she simply used the eye pencil on the models’ lips. “Why can’t we use eye pencil on the lips?” she asked. Why not indeed? We move our makeup around our face all the time, and this has just added another use for those brown and dark plum eyeliners we have in our makeup bags. Thanks, Maria!
