How to Get Your Hands on the World's Most Limited-Edition Beauty Products
You know the drill. You've heard your favourite cult beauty brand is set to launch an incredible new product that is definitely going to change your life. But, horrors, the day it goes on sale, you discover that it's sold-out. It's a sad tale that we've heard many a time. And alas there's little you can do once it's gone, as we're not ones to go buying horrendously marked-up, and possibly fake, items on eBay. So what can you do when your soon-to-be favourite beauty item is about to launch? Just how do you get your hands on coveted beauty products, such as Kylie Jenner's always sold-out Lip Kits?
For Jenner's infamous Lip Kits, Byrdie's Editorial Director Amy Lawrenson has a surefire way to get a hold of them—follow Kylie Jenner on Snapchat. The reality star often, if not always, teases her new launches on the social media platform as well as when the old colours get restocked. Yesterday, Jenner announced that her new colours Kristen, Maliboo and Ginger were being launched this week, with the first two becoming available last night at 10 p.m. And thanks to her diligence, our ed director is now the proud owner of Candy K (£20) and Koko K (now sold-out).
However, we know that not every product is the same and that there are plenty of other ones we've all missed out on. Seeing as this is a classic beauty addict's predicament, we spoke to Alexia Inge, co-founder of Cult Beauty, who knows a thing or two about sell-out beauty products and how you can ensure you get your hands on the one you're after.
Keep scrolling to read Alexia Inge's tips on how to really get your hands on a coveted beauty product and what to do if it's sold out.
BYRDIE UK: You're desperate to get your hands on a new beauty product that's just about to be released. What's the first thing you should do?
ALEXIA INGE: Contact the brand and find out where they are going to be stocked. At Cult Beauty you can contact our customer service (email@example.com) and ask us when the product is due so you have a date for your diary. Our CS team are happy to take your email address and personally email you when it arrives.
BYRDIE UK: You know the day the product is going to be released but in the past you've lost out. How early do you need to get to the site?
AI: Products go live as soon as we get the go-ahead from the warehouse, so it depends on what time they arrive and how long it takes to count the stock, quality check and load it onto the system.
BYRDIE UK: Should you bulk buy?
AI: It depends on how much you like the product. With the really popular ones, it can be months before the brand is able to restock. So if you are sure you like it, it’s good to buy a couple so you don’t run out… That way you save on shipping too.
BYRDIE UK: What should you do if you miss out? How can you get your hands on a coveted item? Are there any places you've got to (eBay or the like) to find a product you've loved and wanted?
AI: If you miss out on a product that has sold out on Cult Beauty, join the wait list on that page. We priority email our wait-list customers (in the order of when they signed up) before we tell anyone else about it so they get first dibs.
BYRDIE UK: What are the products that fly off the shelf when they come in?
AI: These are the ones you need to keep your eye on…
Huda Beauty Lip Contour (£16)
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette (£41)
Jouer Cosmetics Long-Wear Lip Crème Liquid Lipstick (£14)
Morphe Brushes the 35O Palette (£21)
BECCA Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Champagne Pop (£32)
