A Top Hairstylist Predicts 2016's Biggest Hair Trends
New year often signals a reinvention whether that's a new ‘do —or, at least, a freshly styled interpretation of the one we’ve been rocking. Always itching to get ahead of the curve, we asked celebrity stylist, Juan Carlos Maciques to clue us in on the year’s soon to be biggest hair trends. Carlos, whose A-list clientele at Rita Hazan Salon in New York includes Jennifer Lopez, Chrissy Teigen, Michelle Williams and Emmy Rossum, shared three moments he swears are about to take over the beauty space and his favourite products to get the looks. Keep scrolling to see what he predicts.
"It’s all about a very unpolished style so that the look is about the hair ornament. You want a very undone, loose bun, and then just attach a hair ornament of preference. I like the metal stuff that’s going on, specifically Jennifer Behr."
"The difference being, instead of loose braid, it’s very tight. Slick the hair back with gel. I like the Kiehl’s Clean Hold Styling Gel (£14). Take a large fluffy makeup brush, spray it with hairspray, and brush it down the braid if you have any flyways. I love (L’Oréal) Elnett Satin Hold Hair Spray (£4)."
"Everything is very blunt and straight—no layers whatsoever. Flatiron your hair with a product."
Juan Carlos swears by the discontinued, Shu Uemura Iron Design which according to him, "really protects the hair and sets it in place while giving it shine, luster and a lot of movement at the same time." We love the brand’s still-available hair smoothing and shine-boosting primer, Shu Uemura Wonder Worker (£22).
